Spudnik-1, an orbiting potato on @Space_Station!
I flew potatoes on Expedition 72 for my space garden, an activity I did in my off-duty time. This is an early purple potato, complete with spot of hook Velcro to anchor it in my improvised grow light terrarium.
Potatoes are one of the most efficient plants based on edible nutrition to total plant mass (including roots). Recognized by Andy Weir in his book/movie "The Martian," potatoes will have a place in future exploration of space. So I thought it good to get started now!

Now is the time to meet @NASA's call to transition its low-Earth orbit presence from the International Space Station (ISS) to a lower-cost commercial option. Vast is ready to deliver for America and our international partners. We will be delivering the world's first, most affordable, commercial space station in 2026: Haven-1.
Haven-1 will be Vast's first step toward a long-term commercial presence in orbit.
Purpose-built for scientific research, in-space manufacturing, and human habitation, Haven-1 will ensure humanity’s presence in low-Earth orbit. Backed by a world-class team and built with speed, safety, and efficiency at its core, this marks the next era in human space exploration—not just reaching orbit, but staying there.
Learn more about how we are making it happen.

What holds many people back from taking initiative is not laziness. It's fear.
Inaction breeds rumination and feeds anxiety. Action builds momentum and fuels confidence.
Some ideas won't work. Some people will say no. But in the long run, it's better to fail than to fail to try.

The Haven-1 primary structure qualification article has been successfully installed on our test stand. We are now gearing up for an extensive test campaign, during which we will simulate the loads and internal pressures the structure will endure during ascent and on-orbit operations. Meanwhile, our team in Long Beach, CA, is machining and welding the flight primary structure that will launch into orbit.

Back in the late 70's NASA/JPL developed some revolutionary tools to generate CGI for their missions. This looks low tech now, but it was cutting edge at the time.

Last night's view of the @Space_Station as it flew over the UK at ~04:07 UTC - perhaps my best capture to date. Dragon's fins, Starliner's thruster groups and the cupola are nicely seen. There are even 'hints' of the Japanese flag on the Kibō module! #astrophotography #telescope
