When Black women in leadership are targeted, the consequences reach far beyond one elected official.
In her latest op-ed in @WashInformer, Higher Heights President and CEO @glyndacarr calls for transparency following the raid on @Ilhan's home and examines how intimidation undermines Black women’s ability to serve and discourages others from running.

We stand #InDefenseOf Rep. @Ilhan.
A federal raid on her home just weeks before the midterms raises serious concerns about political intimidation and abuse of power.
Black women deserve to lead without fear of retaliation.
We are monitoring this closely. #BlackWomenLead

Trump has ordered a new investigation into Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, renewing his effort to remove her over mortgage fraud allegations she denies. The Supreme Court blocked his first attempt to fire Cook last year in June over due process concerns. She is now scheduled to appear before a panel of administration officials on November 5.
Cook’s lawyers questioned whether the hearing would be a fair review or a “box checking exercise,” pointing to Trump’s repeated statements that he has already decided to fire her. They said she welcomes the opportunity to present the facts and clear her name. Senate Minority Leader @SenSchumer also criticized the move as an escalation of Trump’s “smear campaign” against Cook.

Let’s be clear. Mayor Karen Bass is no fascist.
A recent video featuring Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nithya Raman and a social media influencer placed Mayor Bass’s image alongside the words “fascist liars.”
While Raman’s campaign says the video was misleadingly edited, the portrayal of Mayor Bass is deeply troubling and deserves to be challenged.
@MayorOfLA has spent her life fighting for civil rights, justice, and opportunity. From founding Community Coalition to becoming the first Black woman to serve as Speaker of a state legislative chamber, chairing the @TheBlackCaucus, and making history as Los Angeles’ first woman mayor, her record is rooted in empowering communities, not suppressing them.
No elected official is above criticism. Debate her policies. Challenge her decisions. Demand accountability. That’s democracy.
But misleading attacks that distort a Black woman’s character and erase decades of public service are unacceptable.
Higher Heights stands “In Defense of” the Mayor. You can disagree with Karen Bass. But you cannot rewrite her history.

What does inclusion look like when candidates ask for your vote? For @CFColemanJr, it starts with naming Black men in the policies meant to serve them and listening to their experiences.
We brought this conversation from last week’s GOTV rally to Sunday Brunch because Higher Heights is the political home for Black women, with room for our allies, including Black men, to share their perspectives and be heard.
Watch the full conversation on our YouTube channel with @CollectivePAC Founder and President @QJames, Higher Heights Director of Programs Jay Brandon, and civil rights attorney and @MSNOWNews legal analyst Charles Coleman Jr.

Los Angeles @MayorOfLA is speaking out after Trump said, “Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego,” while discussing Iran at a Nebraska rally Monday.
Trump made the remarks after describing the costs of the war as a “small price to pay” for keeping the country safe. The White House defended his comments, saying he meant that U.S. cities would have faced threats from Iran had the administration not taken military action.
Mayor Bass warned that the remarks could compromise public safety and rejected rhetoric she said encouraged attacks on American lives. Gov. Gavin Newsom and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria also condemned the comments.
“The role of a president is to protect the country, not to actively threaten it and encourage attacks on American lives,” Mayor Bass said, calling on Angelenos to stand together and protect their city.

“Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.” — Fannie Lou Hamer
Today, we celebrate the birthday of a fearless grassroots leader who turned her own experiences of injustice into collective action, organizing her community to fight for voting rights and build Black political power.
For 14 years, Higher Heights has carried that spirit of grassroots organizing forward by defending Black women in office, backing those on the ballot, and building political power that lasts beyond Election Day.
Honor her legacy by investing in that work: a Leadership Circle Member is matching donations dollar for dollar up to $250,000 through November 1, doubling your impact as we keep building toward a future where everybody is free.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention Month, a time to stand #WithSurvivors and recommit to creating communities where everyone can live, love, and thrive free from violence.
For Black women and our communities, that means listening without judgment, believing survivors, respecting their choices, and making sure support is within reach. Awareness is a starting point, but how we show up for survivors matters beyond October.
If you or someone you love needs support, the @ndvh is available 24/7. Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), text START to 88788 or visit thehotline.org.

The energy is here, and now it’s time to turn it into action. New reporting from @theGrio highlights polling that finds 77% of Black women voters are motivated to participate in the 2026 midterms, with enthusiasm pollster Cornell Belcher says he hasn’t seen since the Obama era. But this time, the motivation is different: urgency around protecting our communities, our rights, and our futures.
Read more from theGrio, then join us TONIGHT for the #BlackWomenLead Get Out The Vote Kickoff Virtual Rally as we break down what’s at stake this November and how we can turn that energy into action.
