3 years ago today, I tested positive for an infection that has changed my life. I’m 36 and have been disabled for 3 years. I will have to take medication for the rest of my life. I have had pain every day for 3 years. I have learnt to parent with deafness, blurred vision, 1/3

6 years ago today I contracted #LongCovid Ill health retired from Nursing at 36, I’ve lost my career, my health, my independence and financial security. I’m not the Mum, Wife, Nurse or friend I want to be. I miss it all, and I’m angry that the #Covid decision makers walk free

I’m not going to waste anymore of my precious energy responding to trolls, you will just get blocked. Evidence, research, science backs up my account. If you feel the need to spout a load of crap, do it on your own post. Everyone can see my disability was from months before 💉

Thanks as always to those who fight for us, support us, check in on us, treat us, listen to us, advocate for us and of course love us. We exist because you have our backs. So many of us can’t fight for ourselves and the longer time goes on and the more #Covid takes its toll. 🦠

So there’s my annual rampage, mainly because nothing has been learnt, nothing has changed, and most infuriatingly, they continue to let people down. The most support given to the #LongCovid community has been from each other, not from our employers, or NHS, or Unions. #COVID_19

And they aren’t there now to fight for the compensation of those disabled. They let us all down. They can write all the letters they want, but they stood back whilst years old safety guidance was DOWNGRADED so it didn’t induce national panic as we were so unprepared.

They didn’t fight for us then, are they aren’t even doing it in retrospect. The @theRCN in particular has just dropped the last of its personal injury claims for Long Covid. They should be ashamed. They weren’t there when we needed them to fight for he safety of their members

Likewise, the trade unions should hang their heads in shame. Many of us paid our memberships thinking that when shit hit the fan, our unions would not only back us, but fight for us. @TheBMA @theRCN @UNISONOurNHS and many others are also complicit, why didn’t they fight for us?

The @NHS knew then, and knows now, the damage that #Covid is doing to people. Burying their heads in the sand is negligent and as they have done nothing to change this, I hope it’s shown up for what it really is in court, Complicit disregard and disabling of staff - ongoing.

The ONLY way to prevent #LongCovid disability is by preventing #Covid infection in the first place. Personally, I can’t wait to see the @NHS and co in court. They have to answer for following poorly constructed and unsafe guidance blindly and putting their staff at risk.

Because we weren’t protected. And the worst bit? 6 years on, we still aren’t keeping people safe! We are entering another flu and Covid season and we have learnt NOTHING. We will still kill and disable people because the @covidinquiryuk findings are being ignored. It’s neglect

I wasn’t safe, because people paid a lot of money with a lot of responsibility wrote me off. Along with thousands of other keyworkers, we were a disposable commodity. We locked down to save people, but it was smoke and mirrors whilst frontline staff died or were disabled by Covid

FFP3 masks and decent PPE would have likely prevented me contracting #Covid working on the frontline. Vaccines didn’t make me sick, they weren’t even available at the time. The virus made me sick and it’s left me with 12 new conditions and tens of symptoms. Why wasn’t I safe?

Is @Karinsmyth prepared to have her name on record as denying patients and medical staff at Torbay Hospital safety in the event of a fire? Many parts of the hospital have been condemned for years and it’s just rotting. What if there is another Grenfell tower type incident?
Torbay Hospital has been issued a notice that it is unsafe by the Fire Service and the Care Quality Commission. I asked the government for funding for the Hospital's Tower Block way back in February, and have raised this specific issue in Parliament many times, in the Chamber and privately with the Minister. Today I reiterated my plea for £8 million urgently and to avoid services moving out of Torbay and South Devon, and asked the Minister to meet with me again to discuss this. I am now awaiting the Minister's response. #NHS #TorbayHospital

Here we go again! Who'd be a HCW in Scotland and Wales particularly. They now regard COVID-19 as neither severe nor a serious health risk so they mandate surgical masks for ALL care of patients with Covid, RSV & Flu - even for so-called "High Risk AGPs". Will they never learn!
The PCR positivity map is out and the national average has risen again to 10.65% in England, 5.4% in Scotland. Scottish data is as of 4 days ago (Sunday); English data is as of 3 days ago (Monday). jamestindall.info/skeuomorph… 1/8

Telling an eighty-year-old woman to "check the portal" for serious biopsy results is cruelty disguised as digital efficiency. My 82-year-old aunt had a lung biopsy done two weeks ago. The doctor told her they’d have the pathology report ready within five business days. Friday afternoon rolled around. No call. She dialed the clinic’s main desk, her voice shaking with anxiety. The receptionist cut her off before she could finish explaining: “Doctor doesn’t give results over the phone anymore. All lab findings are automatically released to your MyChart patient portal.” My aunt said, “Sweetheart, I don’t have a computer. I have a landline on my kitchen wall. Can the doctor just tell me if I have cancer?” The receptionist sighed into the receiver: “It’s hospital network policy. We can’t bypass the portal. You’ll have to have a family member create an account and view the file.” My aunt spent an entire seventy-two-hour weekend sitting in her recliner, gripping her reading glasses, convinced she was dying. I drove out to her house on Monday morning, set up a profile on my laptop, and pulled up the records. The result was benign. The pathology report had been uploaded four days earlier. A doctor spent three minutes clicking an upload button, and an elderly woman endured four days of sheer psychological terror because the hospital decided a phone call was too expensive. Since when did delivering medical news become a self-service task?

All children should have an educational provision. It is simply unacceptable that some parents have had to wait more than six months before hearing from a named SEND caseworker. I am now running a petition calling on the government and Torbay Council to reduce waiting times for identifying, assessing and meeting children's needs. You can sign here: torbaylibdems.org.uk/campaig… This means faster and clearer EHCP processes, shorter waiting lists for ASD, ADHD, SALT and OT, and earlier identification in mainstream schools. #SEND #Torbay #Torquay #Paignton #torbayweekly #TorbayHour #BoostTorbay #brixham #CommunityMatters #southdevon

People are still being SACKED by @NHS for contracting #LongCovid and not offering retirement. Trade unions nowhere to be seen. No finances or guidance offered. Let me make this clear, you are nothing but a statistic to the NHS! #LongCovid @1goodtern @theRCN @TheBMA @NHSuk

Just a reminder that after sacrificing our health, career and financial stability working the front line without protection from #Covid-19, this is the vanilla goodbye you can expect to receive. #longcovid #herotozero #clappedthensacked @theRCN @nmcnews @UNISONOurNHS @1goodtern

Just every day disability abuse. It’s despressingly common. Because so many of us want to be like this… 🤦‍♀️ #longcovid #DisabilityHate
My Back is proper fucked, booked last minute osteopath appt for this afternoon. Asked how much it costs on the phone to which they followed up with “are you in work?” Before telling me the price. The implication being if I had said no, I would have gotten it cheaper? PIP Society
