🚨BOOKLET: HAS IPC GUIDANCE IN SCOTLAND & WALES LEARNT THE LESSONS OF THE COVID PANDEMIC? (Spoiler: the answer is NO!) I’m honoured that the brilliant folks @SupportingHH_UK were able to use content from my thread & transform it into an amazing booklet: shh-uk.org/new-ipc-guidance-…
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿NEW IPC GUIDANCE Scotland has quietly introduced a brand new approach to respiratory infection prevention & control in healthcare. This change has MAJOR consequences for both patients & staff. The story behind it is quite extraordinary so grab a cuppa & I’ll explain… 🧵

We know #CovidIsAirborne. So why doesn’t our protection reflect that? SARS-CoV-2 spreads through infectious aerosols that can be inhaled. Does revised IPC guidance in Scotland and Wales reflect what we now know about respiratory transmission? shh-uk.org/new-ipc-guidance-…

Excellent post by Supporting Healthcare Heroes here. Note in particular the link to a booklet on this page. This tells a powerful story about which every healthcare worker in Scotland and Wales needs to see. And England N.I. beware - this travesty could come to you next...
😷 A surgical mask and a respirator are NOT the same thing. A surgical mask is loose fitting. A properly fitted respirator forms a seal and filters inhaled airborne particles. So why is a surgical mask recommended for Covid-19 in some circumstances? shh-uk.org/new-ipc-guidance-…

Please also bear in mind that the NHS guidance which recommends just 6 air changes per hour in hospitals is “hopelessly out of date and completely unfit for purpose”, as highlighted by expert witnesses at the Covid Inquiry… /1

I also wanted to add a few additional points about the importance of VENTILATION in infection control… During Prof Beggs’ hearing, he described how the current hospital ventilation guidelines (for general areas & wards) are hopelessly out of date & completely unfit for purpose.

*** Excellent blog *** Definitely a 'must read' - ESPECIALLY BY THOSE IN GOVERNMENT, NHS, PUBLIC HEALTH etc who continue to make these mistakes and endanger thousands upon thousands of healthcare workers and patients every day.
🚨 FIVE IPC MISTAKES. DEVASTATING CONSEQUENCES. The UK Covid-19 Inquiry exposed serious failings in infection prevention and control (IPC) during the pandemic. ❌ Failure to apply the precautionary principle ❌ Misunderstanding how respiratory infections spread ❌ Inadequate respiratory protection ❌ Inconsistent and unclear guidance ❌ Failures in expertise, accountability and oversight Healthcare workers paid a devastating price. ⚠️ Have we learnt the lessons? Read the analysis by @EvonneTCurran and me: shh-uk.org/five-ipc-mistakes… #SafeAir4All #CovidInquiry #InfectionPrevention #LongCovid #HealthcareWorkers

When will Governments listen to real experts like Dr Twycross and Curran and ditch individuals who have backs to cover (being accountable for so much death and suffering over the last 6 years). This calls into question the honours bestowed upon many of the so-called 'experts'.

Here we go again! Who'd be a HCW in Scotland and Wales particularly. They now regard COVID-19 as neither severe nor a serious health risk so they mandate surgical masks for ALL care of patients with Covid, RSV & Flu - even for so-called "High Risk AGPs". Will they never learn!
The PCR positivity map is out and the national average has risen again to 10.65% in England, 5.4% in Scotland. Scottish data is as of 4 days ago (Sunday); English data is as of 3 days ago (Monday). jamestindall.info/skeuomorph… 1/8

Equivalent to 5 university hospitals just with admitted cvd pts.... then add the hosp acquired pts & staff. Multiple 1000s of bed days lost to the virus again.
Rise of COVID-19 in England. “While there were 950 hospital admissions for Covid in August, the total jumped to 4,939 in September”. Test positivity rose from 1.6% to 8%

I wonder who will be the first senior practising healthcare leader to decide that enough is enough and that it is time to stop infecting patients (and other staff) with avoidable, life-shortening airborne viruses? See below
Jfc. I thought this was the old one, where 74% of Covid cases in Welsh hospitals CAUGHT IT IN THE HOSPITAL. But no! This is current! And 71% of Covid cases in Welsh hospitals CAUGHT IT IN THE HOSPITAL. Have they thought of applying some ... infection control? At the hospitals?

🚨RUSSIAN LAB WORKER DEAD FROM PNEUMONIC PLAGUE. FEARS OF OUTBREAK. According to WHO, pneumonic plague is: ▪️The MOST virulent form of plague ▪️Transmitted via respiratory particles (ie. airborne) ▪️Can be fatal within 18-24 hours of onset, if untreated. themoscowtimes.com/2026/10/0…
🚨Breaking. There's been a pneumonic plague outbreak at a BSL-3 lab in Siberia, Russia.🚨 "Nearly 200 People Under Observation After Irkutsk Lab Worker Dies From Plague" - Moscow Times This is fact, and also the inciting incident in my book BIOLOGICAL WAR: A SCENARIO, which is unnerving. Will post more as I learn more, including from Russian speaking sources🧵 shorturl.at/De4kW

🚨NHS HOSPITALS DECLARING CRITICAL INCIDENTS These alerts have all been posted in the last 3 days. It’s not even October yet. Flu season hasn’t got going yet. This should not be happening… …and yet it is, because there’s another pesky virus we’re not allowed to mention 🤫
NHS alerts today: - East Kent Hospitals: critical incident, beds are full - Calderdale and Huddersfield NHSFT: under pressure with respiratory disease - Wrightington Wigan and Leigh, and Newham Hospital (Barts): A&E under pressure

Oh blimey. Not this again. This came up in the Covid Inquiry. It’s absolutely ridiculous. Of course respirators should be worn by infectious people - just not respirators with valves! It’s not exactly rocket science. But these IPC folks appear not to understand basic science.

In the UK, when masks were back in stock in summer 2020, the govt maintained the droplet lie. In fact, they maintain the lie even to this day. I have letters signed in the last year by Govt Ministers saying SC2 is droplet spread. You can read about the scandal in tweets below…
In the UK, those leading the pandemic response knowingly and deliberately lied that SARS2 was spread by droplet. They told HCWs they would be safe wearing FRSMs. The cover-up continues to this day. You can read about the scandal in press release linked below…

Part way down her excellent megathread on ScotGov's latest (highly flawed) IPC Manual @_CatintheHat reviews the so-called 'experts' in ARHAI's "Considered Judgements" (a euphemism if ever there was one!) she discusses PPE/RPE. I'd like to chip in on one point which caught my eye:

On p60, there’s a section about potential harms of using surgical masks (instead of RPE) when caring for patients infected with R1 respiratory agents. This includes a brief mention of the risk of respiratory particles breaching the loose-fitting ‘baggy-blue’ surgical mask...

I challenged HSE as to why they allowed IPC to call FRSMs “PPE” This was their reply So they just threw up their hands and gave up – instead of taking enforcement action to stop this misinformation, they just ‘let them get on with it'. Sadly, to their eternal shame, they still do
