A small thread on Halos inspiration 🧵 I grew up in a Catholic family, church every Sunday and strict but extremely loving parents. Being Catholic was part of my identity and my family heritage. Sunday dinners with grandparents, catholic school system, etc. My first year of highschool, my family got some terrible news Christmas Eve, my mom had developed ovarian cancer. We were all shook and obviously turned to prayer and religion to hope and pray for her recovery and health. Through my entire highschool years, I slowly watched my mom deteriorate physically. Although her health was getting worse and worse, one thing that remained was her spirit, her love, her optimism and infectious smile. Unfortunately she passed after constant battles for 5 years, and this truly made me step back and question religion, and « GOD ». If there was some greater power, who controlled the universe, would he let someone suffer, let their children watch them suffer. Rip everything they lived away from them? Losing my mom at such a fragile age has obviously had impacts on my mental health. Some days are dark and unmotivated, some days are great and full of energy. One thing I know is that energy and positivity my mom had until her last breath was the most inspiring thing I’ve ever witnessed. Knowing you got dealt a shit hand, but making the best of it. Halos was inspired by that bright light in extreme darkness. Being able to shine even when you know your time is so limited. While im not religious anymore, I’ve used my religious upbringing as a moral compass more then anything. You don’t have to agree with my views, I respect all views and beliefs, but this was my journey. So for you Mom, here’s a Halo ❤️🙏.
