Is Tiktok Shop slowing? J&T Express just reported SE Asia parcel volumes, and are flat for the year at ~31M per day for the last few qtrs. They're guiding to 50-55% full year growth, implying Q4 holiday season only ramps to 33-37M parcels. Evidence Shopee's VIP & logistics investments are working? $SE $1519.HK

On Shopee VIP. Once customers sign up, they stop comparison shopping + avg spend increases 5x (granted, there's bias, as power users sign up first). VIP members already make up >25% of GMV - think it's a good ROI on capital, by locking up their customer base / reducing churn, and in turn increasing customer LTV. h/t @farrer36am. $SE english.cw.com.tw/article/ar…

Asking for genuine advice 🙏: Does anyone have experience hiring freelance investigative journalists? I know some funds do this. We have a couple projects I'd like help on (US, Japan, and Brazil based), and I'm not sure where to start. Where's the best place to find candidates, and any specific tips?

The analogy gets better... it took medallion 3 years to successfully expand from FICC markets to equities. Required a completely different data set and tick-by-tick data. They lost money the first couple of years, but eventually became their largest market. Feels similar. $APP
h/t Fred Liu when he said that $App is the RenTec of ads i.e., you're never going to find out what's in the model – you either trust the team and the outputs, or you don't But for some reason everyone on this app just says the same nonsense in 1 million different ways. We do not need another quarterly breakdown from a fintwit influencer who just found out what AppLovin/Axon is

While only 10% of AUM, the pods account for 1/3 of HF GMV. Increasingly the pods are the marginal buyer (and seller) of liquid securities. I discuss these changes to mkt structure & how stocks trade, & how managers are adapting in the piece below. bristlemoonresearch.com/p/do…

This is the best founder you've never heard of. Adam Foroughi's company prints $5 billion in cash a year with just 400 people. When his stock price dropped by 92%, he borrowed money to buy back $6 billion in stock. That bet made the company more than $60 billion. The entire C-suite is just 4 people. To this day, Adam approves every hire. This episode has the highest insight-to-minute ratio of any conversation I've had so far. The fundamental issue with independent agentic commerce, and what almost certainly led OpenAI to shutter Instant Checkout after just a few months, and Walmart to pivot toward pushing Sparky into other chatbots rather than facilitating direct checkout, is what I've called Native Agent Proximity: If consumers demand to shop via agents with natural language, then on-platform agents will be the superior way to do that, and the largest eCommerce retailers already support that natively. Further, retail platforms have a number of structural, compelling reasons to reject working with independent commerce agents: ad revenue, promotional messaging, cross-selling, etc. A direct relationship with the consumer is invaluable. No large retail platform will give that up. But most importantly, the reason that 'agentic ad buying' never really took root, which relates to why the open web is declining as a destination for ad spend, is that independent agents simply perform worse than platform-owned agents. They have access to less data and therefore can't personalize as effectively. This isn’t a case of the price of anarchy; it’s the opposite: coordination is welfare-reducing. OpenAI shuttered Instant Checkout *quickly*, after just a few months. It wasn't because the concept is nascent; it's because the economics weren't tenable, Amazon wouldn't cooperate, and the outcomes were worse than native shopping experiences. These are fundamental roadblocks.

This debate resurfaces every few years. Empirically, the data says it doesn't matter (even if logically, it should). #software #sbc
Interesting research on whether free cash flow generation is "real" because of SBC. The results are not what most would think or may want to hear. SBC doesn't matter to free cash flow. And in fact, unadjusted FCF metrics have generated better alpha than adjusting out SBC.

🚨BREAKING: Alibaba tested AI coding agents on 100 real codebases, spanning 233 days each. the agents failed spectacularly. turns out passing tests once is easy. maintaining code for 8 months without breaking everything is where AI collapses. SWE-CI is the first benchmark that measures long-term code maintenance instead of one-shot bug fixes. each task tracks 71 consecutive commits of real evolution. 75% of AI models break previously working code during maintenance. only Claude Opus 4 stays above 50% zero-regression rate. every other model accumulates technical debt that compounds over iterations. here's the brutal part: - HumanEval and SWE-bench measure "does it work right now" - SWE-CI measures "does it still work after 6 months of changes" agents optimized for snapshot testing write brittle code that passes tests today but becomes unmaintainable tomorrow. Alibaba built EvoScore to weight later iterations heavier than early ones. agents that sacrifice code quality for quick wins get punished when consequences compound. the AI coding narrative just got more honest: most models can write code. almost none can maintain it.

Well, looks like $RKT vacuumed up the entire industry's refi volumes. Not only PennyMac. And 30 yr fixed just hit the lowest in 3.5 years this week.
Going thru PennyMac earnings... why is this not bullish for Rocket Mortgage $RKT? $PFSI is down on accelerated prepayments, and lacking the capacity to recapture them. Meanwhile $RKT's been embracing AI / tech to grow capacity per loan officer, and not needing additional headcount in the next cycle. $RKT also has 80% recapture rate, so their own MSR business should be protected. What are the odds these refinancing's flowed to $RKT, and they meaningfully grew market share this quarter? Am I missing something?

Happy to share our Q4 2025 letter. Especially at a time when the future of internet and software business models are being questioned. In it, we offer our take on: - The "AI Scare Trade". The market is pricing in fear, not facts. These businesses aren't broken (yet), but investors are selling indiscriminately. - What's still investable? Software faces real headwinds - disruption to terminal value assumptions and forced pricing model shifts. But ~80% of a software company's value is trust, reliability, and headache-free solutions. That doesn't disappear overnight. - Network effects are real moats. Gaming, ecommerce, consumer internet - they're all down substantially from highs. But as AI reduces barriers to entry, the barriers to scale go up. Distribution grows more valuable. - Thoughts on $SE, after a -45% drawdown. We don't think the TikTok boogeyman is as scary as the market fears. In fact, the opposite. - New Oriental $EDU exit. Originally bought near net cash, and business has stabilized since. Time to move on. Full letter linked here: content.haydencapital.com/Ha…

China's enterprise AI market is moving fast. Frost & Sullivan's latest report shows daily enterprise token consumption hit 37 trillion in H2 2025, up 263% from 10.2 trillion in H1. That's not incremental growth, that's a structural shift. A few things stand out to me: - Qwen (32.1%), Doubao (21.3%), and DeepSeek (18.4%) held the same top three rankings as H1. But their combined share jumped from under 50% to over 70%. - Open-source models crossed 56% of total enterprise usage, flipping the script from H1 when closed-source still dominated. The number of vendors still updating closed-source foundation models dropped from 29 to just 7. - The use case mix is also changing. H1 was mostly simple, single-turn conversations. H2 saw enterprises shift toward autonomous agents, building systems that can plan, call tools, and iterate on their own. This is what enterprise AI adoption actually looks like when it scales.

Key Take-Aways from @ballmatthew 's State of Video Games Report: 1. In-App Advertising 2x'd in last 5 years $APP 2. Mobile in-app ads is almost as big as PC & Console Spend combined 😲 3. 65% of mobile games revenue comes from mid & low end smartphone users $SE 4. "Rest of World" (SE Asia, Latam, etc) accounted for all of the growth since 2021.

AppLovin - Interview with Xiaochuan (architect of $APP's Axon engine). Thought this was the most in-depth public conversation on AppLovin's business to date. (P.S. Youtube has great subtitle translation) Axon & Technical Philosophy - Axon was built by just 5 people in 3 months - AppLovin was the first to implement models with prediction windows exceeding 7 days - Deliberately avoids developing its own LLMs, preferring to use the best available models on the market — building LLMs in-house wouldn't generate the best ROI E-Commerce Expansion - Decision to enter e-commerce made in May 2024, with the product launching later that year; original team was only 10 people - Entering e-commerce was effectively building a new model from scratch - The gaming and e-commerce algorithms share nothing except infrastructure and accumulated organizational experience Core Competency & Culture - AppLovin's edge isn't industry-specific — it's rooted in how the company approaches problems (the culture itself), which he believes positions them to tackle challenges well beyond gaming and e-commerce - His relish for being called an "underdog" comes through clearly throughout the interview Social Media Ambitions - Already working on building a next-generation social media platform - Strategic logic: Meta started with captive organic traffic and built an ad platform on top; AppLovin is doing the reverse - starting with the ad platform and building toward organic traffic - Owning that organic traffic, if achieved, would be a significant advantage Short Seller Response - When the short reports were published, Xiaochuan personally reviewed the systems and code to assess whether the claims had merit Hiring Philosophy - After 2023, overhauled hiring: moved to paying among the highest salaries in Silicon Valley, and shifted focus away from seasoned veterans toward people with fewer than 2 years of experience - Core belief: experience is overrated, the capacity to learn is underrated; breakthroughs come from willingness to abandon convention - "You can't operate like a large company if you don't have a large company's resources" - Most prominent AI researchers are overpriced — high visibility and intense competition drives salaries beyond their marginal value - Targets talent at the "periphery of the spotlight": technically strong but undervalued by the market, and still carrying the underdog mentality that well-known names often lack (i.e. "Moneyball") - Entire engineering org runs on fewer than 100 people youtu.be/18qSqzTdnbs?si=-wlo…
Applovin wants to launch their own social media platform next. Discussed in this interview with Xiaochuan Ge, the architect of Axon (50min mark). $APP youtube.com/watch?app=deskto… Probably not meaningful in short-term, and who knows if it works. But this is where their roadmap is at. Also already hiring: job-boards.greenhouse.io/app…
