The #MaimonLab at Rockefeller uses a fly treadmill to ask sophisticated questions about how the brains of their tiny subjects calculate angles, keep track of where they’ve been, and avert danger. Read more about this science gadget in #SeekMagazine bit.ly/2Tut2rX

Elephants older and sicker than LUCY are routinely transported to sanctuaries all over the world - in India, Thailand and other nations in conditions far less high-tech and ideal than Lucy would enjoy.
And they make it just fine.

Copy of my response to Eric Denhof's @climatedeputy email re Lucy NOT going to sanctuary - we will re-double or efforts and @freelucy NEVER give up - NEVER surrender @4AnimalLife @GlobalElephants @PAWSARK2000 @ElephantsTN @ElephantCrisis

Emily picks through the rocks for a specific grass, one that she used too snack on before the expansion.
At The Elephant Sanctuary, she won't have to pick through a rock pile to get a variety of grasses.
(She also picks rocks out & sets them aside for the keepers to put back!)

Please help send her to The Elephant Sanctuary by donating to the legal fund for Ruth & Emily.

Good questions everyone should ask of captive facilities. LUCY was captured from the wild in 1976, spent 1 yr at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, then sold to #yegzoo in 1977.
Why did @environmentca issue a CITES import permit 2 years after Asian 🐘🐘 were uplisted to Appendix 1? xitter.cf/RetireRuthEmBPZ/status…
Goes double for zoo elephants. Ruth & Emily at #BPZOO were captured, likely from mothers who were killed. Here's another good question to ask:
Why are they here? xitter.cf/Dolphin_Project/status…

Elephants can live 70+yrs. Former circus #elephant Ramba's age is estimated at 51. A solitary elephant is a tragedy, it's that simple. Ramba has been given permission by the gov't to go to #ElephantSanctuaryBrazil #RambasFlight #saturadymorning buff.ly/2FnNkAF

.@WilliamShatner the Valley Zoo & @CityofEdmonton are lying, to keep profiting off Lucy. They have not substantiated their claim that Lucy can't be moved. Much older & sicker elephants are routinely transported around the 🌏in much less ideal conditions than Lucy would enjoy.

.@WilliamShatner in 2012 you had a great idea: for Edmonton #yeg politicians to appoint volunteers to examine LUCY & see what's warranted.
@ZoocheckCanada has offered to do that + bring in experts. @CityofEdmonton refuses b/c their zoo *profits* off Lucy. youtube.com/watch?v=cORnvGjA…

At this moment I'm actually reading the waiting list of elephants to @GlobalElephants & the training involved in gaining trust @ the start.
So much love and care is needed and we've seen complete transformation of Maia and Guida from tortured, depressed to happy and loving life!

People who think LUCY is fine at #yegzoo & wouldn't benefit from transfer to a sanctuary may not follow sanctuaries to learn how elephants *thrive* in them.
Compare the expressions on Lucy's face with Maia & Guida whom @GlobalElephants moved to Elephant Sanctuary Brazil in 2016.

To our #Alberta followers who care about LUCY & zoo safety: we recommend reading Ms. Woodyer's 2016 affidavit in support of Zoocheck's legal action on Lucy's behalf.

With all due respect, @SPhillipsAB we dispute your Ministry’s findings & would appreciate if you'd please clarify for LUCY's thousands of advocates in 🇨🇦and around the 🌍 how, specifically, your Ministry concluded Valley Zoo isn't violating the Wildlife Act or AB zoo standards.
Mary E Hatten retweeted
We're in disbelief that the Ministry of Environment & Parks conducted an inspection of the Valley Zoo & concluded there are no violations of the Wildlife Act or zoo standards. 😒
@SPhillipsAB we suggest you personally visit #yegzoo to see violations daily re: LUCY w/your own 👀

"A solitary elephant is a tragedy" - but soon Ramba will look into the eyes of another elephant, smell and touch her kin. Wonderful days lie ahead for all involved 🐘❤ xitter.cf/GlobalElephants/status…

Let the breeding shuffle begin. Male African, Ajani, will be moved from one zoo to another to "propagate the species" and build a North American captive herd who will live unnatural lives in small, cramped environments... kansas.com/latest-news/artic…

Good news! The East River Esplanade near Rockefeller is now reopen to pedestrians and cyclists. The full renovation, which includes new lighting, ample seating, thoughtful landscaping, and a designated bike lane, will be complete by June. #RiverCampus
