Hi, I’m Hat Stack Mike! I talk about video games, new and old, and wear a stack of hats.
Series I like include:
Sonic
Zelda
Smash Bros.
Street Fighter
Mario
Donkey Kong
Ace Attorney
Mortal Kombat
Banjo-Kazooie
WarioWare
Kirby
NiGHTS
Puyo Puyo
and a LOT more.
Let’s be friends!
What do you think is the best launch game that released concurrently with a brand new console in your region?
These are my top three picks: Super Mario World, Sonic Adventure, and Zelda: Breath of the Wild!

The much maligned Sega 32X. An expensive add on with a small library but there are great games there! Virtua Fighter was a really decent port and quite impressive for the hardware.
So Nintendo Switch Sports Resort might be a huge improvement over the original after all? I was MASSIVELY disappointed by the original Switch Sports, so I was going to pass on this because I didn’t want to be duped again, but if it’s really that good then I might check it out.
Is there a better 3D fighter than Virtua Fighter 2?
I mean, probably, but not to my nostalgic, biased self.
The WORST Sonic lever ever, in my opinion.

It was awesome! I love how campy and fun it was, and I think they did a great job of adapting the game into a movie.
I love collecting all sorts of profile icons as they become available in the Nintendo Switch Online app. I’m maybe a bit more into collecting these than I really should be. 😆
What do you all have for your Switch/Switch 2 profile icon?
These are some of my favorite pieces of video game box art throughout the years.
What’s your favorite game box art?
How many different versions of WarioWare: Touched! does one person need?
Apparently three, if you’re me.

No series demonstrated the pace of 3D technology like Virtua Fighter.
Each game launching alongside new iterations of Sega's Model 1, 2 and 3 boards, setting a new technical standard in rapid succession.

What’s your preferred port of Mortal Kombat II?
As far as home ports go, I’d say the winner goes to the Sega 32X version. Excellent arcade ports is like the one thing the 32X has bragging rights to. 😆
Happy 25th Anniversary to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney!
I didn’t play this series until more recent years when it got rereleased on Switch, but I was completely enamored once I started playing it and it quickly became one of my favorite video game series.
I had a great weekend at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, and socialized with a lot of really awesome people!
I didn’t buy a whole lot there this year, but one thing of note I got that’s pretty cool is a store kiosk demo unit cart of WarioWare: Touched! It’s neat to have.
I don’t really talk about Pokémon as much as I should, but I just want to say that I like Oshawott an osha-lot.
“Ah, yeah! This is happenin’!”
Today I got to meet and hang out with the original game voice of Sonic from Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic Heroes, and Sonic Advance 3, @RYANtheDRUMMOND! He gave such an iconic voice to Sonic, and is an awesome guy and really cool to talk to.
