This latest article from Thomas Pikkety, the renowned French economist and leading authority on wealth inequality, should be essential reading here in the UK. His argument is simple. France has never been wealthier. Yet education funding per student has fallen by 20% since 2017, public services are struggling, and inequality is deeply embedded in the system. Sound familiar? The problem isn't that our countries have run out of wealth. It's how that wealth is distributed, who controls it, and the political choices made to protect it. For decades, we've been told that austerity, declining public services and falling living standards are unavoidable consequences of economic crises, yet those same decades have seen extraordinary concentrations of private wealth. Socialise the costs. Privatise the gains. This is the reality we all need to wake up to. These aren't inevitable economic outcomes. They're the consequences of political choices, made over time, that have prioritised the accumulation of private wealth over the needs of society. And as public anger grows, we're seeing a deeply concerning response: The rise of the far right, directing that anger towards immigrants, disabled people, those claiming welfare and other vulnerable groups, rather than towards the economic structures responsible for the inequalities people are rightly furious about. As @NaomiAKlein describes fascism, "it's capitalism's most ferocious threat response. A way of directing public anger downwards at the vulnerable, rather than upwards at the system." Fascism doesn't challenge the status quo. It protects it by giving people someone else to blame. The fundamental question isn't whether our societies can afford something better. It's why, when we've never been wealthier, we're repeatedly told we must accept less. We need to fundamentally rethink an economy built around extraction, exploitation and wealth concentration, and start building one that delivers equitable, sustainable prosperity for everyone. And with the UK Budget next week, this should be a serious warning to @UKLabour. If the Budget fails to acknowledge this fundamental reality, and instead offers another round of "difficult decisions" that protect concentrated wealth while asking ordinary people to shoulder the burden, then @andyburnham really hasn't understood what's happening across Europe. What's unfolding in France isn't an isolated protest. It's a warning of what happens when people stop accepting that a society growing ever wealthier somehow can't afford to give them a better life. This isn't something politicians can keep kicking down the road. The warning signs are everywhere. The question now is whether those in power are prepared to confront the causes, or continue defending the very system that's driving the anger. @ZackPolanski @jeremycorbyn @KemiBadenoch @Nigel_Farage

That first part of of his diatribe sounds exactly the way Colonialism happened. Oh well… you rip what you sow 🤷‍♂️
Nick Fuentes gives the coldest take on the French riots “I AM racist! I don’t think there should be Africans in Europe. FUCK THEM! These people came to our fucking countries and ruined them.” 🧊

Sad to hear about Geoffrey Onegi-Obel’s passing. I learnt a lot about Uganda’s financial sector and its politics by watching and listening to what he had to say. Worked with him very early on in my career, he was an interesting boss with a complex personality. May his soul rest in peace.
Uganda has lost one of the architects of its modern financial sector. Geoffrey Alan Onegi-Obel, the founding Chairman of @USEUganda and former Chairman of @nssfug, passed away on Sunday, 18 October 2026, in Nairobi, Kenya. Read his remarkable story and legacy: ceo.co.ug/geoffrey-onegi-obe…

Lol! Listening to his arguments on how he kept making his case to stay in cabinet , clearly there was nothing there 🤦‍♂️. Would be nice to interview him again in 3-5 years — my bet?
I was not disappointed by President @KagutaMuseveni, but I was only disappointed about losing my ministerial job. -@okelloryem, Former State Minister for Foreign Affairs #NTVNews 🎥: @DanielKibet_

He says the name just fine when he’s begging the Qataris for a personal jet or the Saudis for funding for his son-in-law’s private equity firm. Wonder what’s changed?
Trump on El-Sayed: "His name is actually Abduladadalalalala. It's Adulbabababababa Mohammed Al-Sayed. So his middle name is Mohammed. So I was right. He's a jihadist."

I really like this. If the teaching methods centre historical context on today’s contemporary politics and thinking , and students are examined on the basis of how they are able to connect these worlds, it’s amazing. This is a marked transformation from how we were “educated”.
UCE History Paper 1 that was done this week. Y’all this new curriculum is not a joke. It’s no longer about causes and effects of Indian Ocean trade or Causes and effects of Bantu migration. My nephew is cooked, this paper was not that simple😅

Wow! Impressive !! …. Naye nga welabidde page 2 ….
As a failed seminarian, I know how hard it is to argue things of the Lord and miracles. The church saw this risk a long time ago and put a "ye men of little faith" defence. That said, before taking on the Kayanja Jnr boy, come to the fight with a good head on your shoulders. He is not your typical social media heckler. Besides being motivated and involved enough (the Ministry is his source of daily bread, and he looks to be the heir apparent by all looks), he is well-enlightened too and exposed at least by his CV. So bring your A game to this argument. Me thinks all the Pentecostals should make him their spokesman😃😃😃

MONETARY POLICY STATEMENT | October 2026 The Bank of Uganda has raised the Central Bank Rate (CBR) from 9.75% to 12.0% after a special Monetary Policy Committee meeting on 14 October 2026. The decision aims to contain rising inflation risks driven by higher fuel prices and exchange rate pressures, while safeguarding price stability. The Bank also raised the Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR) from 11.0% to 13.5%, effective 24 September 2026, to manage excess liquidity in the banking system and strengthen monetary policy effectiveness. Former Works and Transport Minister Gen (Rtd) Katumba Wamala told MPs his ministry did not have a feasibility study on the digital number plates. He said the name came from a presidential requirement for a tampering alert: “And that was how it came to be called digital number plates, that it would be able to trigger a signal.”
