The only thing the Europeans aren’t doing is wrapping their statements in cotton. The idea that rhetoric can provoke Putin after the war criminal unleashed a war with combined casualties now topping 2 million is insulting, insane, and very Colby.
The Pentagon has urged several NATO allies to tone down their public rhetoric against Russia.
Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby reportedly warned European officials against “poking” Moscow, citing statements portraying Russia as “cornered like a rat.”
One European official summarized the U.S. message as: “We are helping you. The Americans are there. Just don't be loud. Don't make noise.”
Some European officials expressed surprise at the advice, arguing that their assessments of the Russian threat were already measured.

They’d even hold sham “referendums” on tree stumps for Chinese state TV, suddenly discover that they’d always been Chinese and want to reunite with the Middle Kingdom.

Regarding refinery strikes. There has been an established pattern. Whenever Ukraine showed restraint, or halted strikes on refineries, Russia simply continued its strike campaign against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and continued to strike civilian targets in cities.

So basically what everyone feared would happen is happening.
Russian forces have begun taking civilians from occupied Oleshky to Russia, apparently disregarding previously announced agreements governing the operation.
The operations are being conducted by the Russian military, without American representatives or teams from either side’s ombudsman office present. Russia’s state news agency TASS is openly filming the operation.
There is no indication that civilians are being given a choice of where they wish to go. No buses or other vehicles designated to transport evacuees to Ukrainian-controlled territory are visible.
The operation raises serious concerns that Russia is once again exploiting a humanitarian evacuation to forcibly transfer Ukrainian civilians.
The parallels with the evacuation of Mariupol’s Azovstal steel plant are disturbing. Once again, Moscow appears to be disregarding agreed procedures while controlling the fate of Ukrainian civilians.
