No messing! @barrygardiner cuts to the chase on Thames Water. Shareholders should not receive any compensation: and Government has the power to do it. Sign our petition if you agree Thames Water should be taken into public ownership. vist.ly/57y8v

The “return of the state” is both the most compelling case for Andy Burnham and the reason journalists still struggle to understand “Burnhamism”. New Labour’s aversion to nationalisation is now as out of date as Old Labour was in the 1990s. The records of both Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair show the case for having a clear ideology, and the first two years of this Labour government have tested to destruction the idea that having no guiding political philosophy benefits a government. An activist state with the “Green transition” at its heart, with a commitment to municipal enterprise and council-house building, one that shapes the economy rather than blowing in the wind and earns “royalties” from its investments and the IP it supports, is a break with past decades. And so it should be – Thatcher and Blair were the bookends of the long late seventies. This is the second quarter of the 21st century – we need to make it new. It’s time for a real change. A rejection of the glum politics of “like it or lump it – we’re taking away your Winter Fuel Payment, because!” Time to try a leader who enjoys their job, makes a persuasive case for changes and works to create a coalition to support his actions. The 2029 general election will be as definitional for the country as 1979. The end of neoliberal governance opens a new era – for progressives, one that is resolutely upbeat and optimistic. @Johnmcternan: Labour needs a leader who actually enjoys the job newstatesman.com/politics/uk…

On @thameswater government is eventually moving in the right direction. BUT much too slowly! The Water Special Measures Act provides the mechanism to put Thames into a Special Administration Regime It currently meets the threshold for both a performance and insolvency SAR DO IT

How do you save North East schools £100,000 per year for books, school supplies and the best days out? Simple - put solar panels on their roof. So that’s what we did for 23 schools in Sunderland and Northumberland. Lower energy bills, more money for kit, kids loving their contribution to the environment and the panels were fitted by north east workers too! Green energy 🤝 green jobs 🤝opportunity

Another evolution in Reform; threatening companies who won’t do what they want. Serco - like any company or any person - is at liberty not to accept a contract from the government for any reason.
🚨 Serco - the government contractor that runs large parts of Britian's immigration and justice operation - has taken the extraordinary position of saying it would oppose Reform's plan to deport illegal migrants from Britain. Having read the Telegraph's report making this claim, I have written to Serco's CEO asking him to urgently clarify their position. Serco is the firm the Home Office uses to deposit unvetted men from Syria, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq into British housing estates without the knowledge nor consent of local residents. Serco is the firm that launches huge bids for rental homes, outbidding local residents by such a vast amount that lifelong residents - including veterans - have been served eviction notices by landlords. All to house illegal migrants. Serco has expressed no moral concern about any of this. Yet they apparently take exception to our plan to actually uphold immigration law and remove those who break it. Moreover, if the Telegraph's reporting is correct, a company so enmeshed in the British state it even runs recruitment for British Armed Forces, says it will take a hostile position to a duly elected Reform government. If the Telegraph’s reporting is correct, the only reasonable interpretation of Serco’s position is that it now believes itself to be an alternative power base to the duly elected government of the United Kingdom, and is willing to act contrary to the interests of the British electorate. If this were true, a Reform government would be left with no choice but to view Serco as a threat to national security.  I have given Serco until 6pm to clarify their position. Should they fail to do so, we will take the following steps to decouple the British Government from Serco: 1) On forming a Government, we will initiate an accelerated review of all Government contracting with Serco with the aim of removing Serco as a public contractor within our first Parliamentary term. 2) Where Serco has breached contracts or break clauses are available, we will terminate those contracts and continue to exercise break clauses as they come due.  My full letter below 👇

Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds has just blocked a deal letting Thames Water dump sewage illegally until 2030. We were on BBC News this morning to explain what this means. We don't want US hedge funds and Trump mega-donors playing fast and loose with the water supply for 16 million people. 107 MPs have signed our MPs’ letter asking Ofwat to drop the deal and take Thames Water into Special Administration. Has your MP signed the letter? vist.ly/57wgf

So appears I'm not liked by at least 1 senior govt adviser. That's a badge I'll happily pick up off the floor and wear with dignity and honour. Here's a hint. Sort out the water industry, fix our rivers and you need never speak my name ever again. Massive thank you once again to Patrick Galbraith @PaddyGalbraith and all at the @Telegraph for the coverage and support. instagram.com/reel/DZkxUeMgu…

Hague is right that Burnham must act fast but the real urgency is rejoining the EU Single Market to fix the Brexit damage hitting farmers, food prices and growth. Slashing welfare isn’t the answer and won’t fly with Labour MPs or the public. We need investment in British industry, domestic food production (rooted in the 1947 Agriculture Act), reopened fertiliser plants, and an end to decline. @AndyBurnhamGM has the platform in Makerfield to deliver that reset not more austerity or denial. Time is short. Mandate the change. #AndyForMakerfield #SaveBritishFarming

A change from @UKLabour that will transform so many lives we haven’t talked about enough 👇
Working people like Suzanne should never have to worry about going to jail because they missed one monthly council tax payment. @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi raised the damage inflicted from council debt collection with me  – and we acted to change the rules, so you have more time to pay.
