I’m delighted to see that in this week's @PrivateEyeNews, in its annual #RottenBoroughs Awards former @HgateAdvertiser Editor Jean MacQuarrie has scooped the award for “Toady of the Year”. Most richly deserved I would say.

Good grief @skynews. What's happened to your dress code standards? I've just watched your deputy political editor @SamCoatesSky being interviewed from home and he looked like he'd just got out of bed - in dishevelled jumper & teeshirt. What next week? Still in his pyjamas?

Surely we're not STILL talking about splashing out ÂŁ49 million redeveloping @HgtConventions? @HarrogateBC's useless councillors had the opportunity to invest heavily in the town's prime asset years & years ago - but failed to. To do so now would be a complete waste of money.

Further evidence (if it were needed) that @HarrogateBC Leader, Richard "Kim Jong" Cooper has completely lost the plot. A council officer posts abusive tweets about a councillor - and Cooper suggests it's the councillor who should apologize. Unbelievable!
There has been a hostile exchange of emails between councillors and the chief executive this week. buff.ly/3se9b3p
I congratulate @thestrayferret for exposing the disgraceful @HarrogateBC employee Steve Rogers who used his anonymous Twitter account to abuse councillors and others, including myself, over many, many, months. Just a shame he wasn't dismissed from his job earlier.

But questions should also be asked about the conduct of @HarrogateBC's overpaid Chief Executive Wallace Sampson. He was well aware of allegations that more than one Council officer was operating an abusive Twitter account. But effectively did nothing. He too should be sacked.

Last night’s #TheApprentice seemed to be all at sea with an over-complicated, three-way task. A bit fishy not to base the whole programme in #Cornwall. Why organize the (very contrived) pitch to the two prestigious London hotels? That struck me as being a complete red herring!

Even top Tories including the party's former leader in Scotland, @RuthDavidsonPC are now openly expressing their incredulity at @BorisJohnson's conduct & hypocrisy. It's quite unthinkable that this man should be allowed to remain in office any longer.
By coincidence, my partner shares a birthday with the Prime Minister (19th June). We marked it in 2020 by inviting one other household to sit outside, socially distanced, in our garden. It didn't occur to us - literally couldn't conceive - that we would act outside the rules.

Of course, @BidHarrogate won't see this question I've raised as the organisation decided some time ago to "block" me on Twitter. But that in itself provides an interesting insight into the way this arrogant & arguably, ineffective body deals with probing questions and criticism.

Isn't there a basic principle here? Why should any business owner be forced to join and pay an annual subscription to an organisation they don't wish to belong to? Where is the justification in making BID membership compulsory?

And this most certainly includes you @HgateAdvertiser. Why do you keep offering a monthly column to #Harrogate's @AJonesMP to spout insipid comments on whatever theme he chooses? Why are you so reluctant to challenge him? After all, he's supposed to represent us - not himself!
I think as a matter of principle, MPs should not be offered column in their local newspaper to spout whatever self-serving drivel they wish. Instead, local papers should conduct monthly Q&A interview with MP to establish exactly what they've done on behalf of their constituents.

Good old dog mess. When a local news organisation has completely run out of ideas of what to write about, thank goodness there's this perennial poo problem to get stuck into .....(so to speak)!
Its dog warden service says the problem is 'particularly bad' in Harlow Hill and urges people to report owners who don't pick up mess. buff.ly/35eLUpS
This looks like yet another example of alleged financial mismanagement by @HarrogateBC. Remember the new council offices which HBC Leader Kim-Jong Cooper told us would cost ÂŁ8m - and ended up costing almost twice that. Of course, no-one was held to account.
The pool was due to be completed in May at a cost of ÂŁ10.2 million but is now eight months overdue and ÂŁ4 million over-budget. buff.ly/3qNmnws
Who can blame @ChistiesBar for being livid? Once again it raises the question: who is @BidHarrogate accountable to? Or does it just do exactly as it pleases? (BTW: the organisation is so sensitive to criticism that it continues to "block" me.)

On Boris Johnson: "You could be a political vandal, an economic bulldozer and a class bully, and still the press would praise you as statesmanlike..." Excellent thought-provoking piece by @chakrabortty in @guardiannews.
And yet there are people STILL prepared to make excuses for and support the Prime Minister.

How to promote the attractions of your own town: use another town! 😂 #shoplocal
So @NorthNottsBID are advertising their 'Bee trail artist initiative', but can you believe this, CEO decided to use a stock photo of Carnaby Street in London! Anyone with a brain would have used a photo of a street in their own BID area! #BusinessImprovementDistrict #NoBrains

"Help me Sue Gray, you're my only hope" - Boris Johnson (probably) by @Cartoonralph

I surely can’t be the only one who thinks that the excoriating quote @DavidDavisMP directed at the P.M. could also be levied at @AJonesMP. To paraphrase: after sitting as MP for Harrogate & Knaresborough for the last 12 years, for all the good he’s done, “in the name of God, go.”
