🧠Hypertension changes how brain blood vessels sense mechanical forces. Overactive Piezo1 disrupts cerebral blood flow and cognition, while Piezo1 inhibition reverses these deficits in mice. ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/… @CircRes

Wow!
Every cell has an organelle signature — a “fingerprint” created from the shape, size & arrangement of its internal structures. HHMI scientists can now read these signatures across 1000s of cells, revealing how tissues adapt to diet & disease bit.ly/4j6DmoH 📹FelicianoLab

BREAKING NEWS
The 2026 #NobelPrize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded to Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel “for their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics.”

Ion channels rock! ⚡️
This year’s medicine laureate Karl Deisseroth transformed the protein channelrhodopsin into a light-controlled switch for nerve cells.
Deisseroth introduced the gene for channelrhodopsin into nerve cells from rats. By illuminating the cells with blue light, he was able to trigger a nerve signal. He published this breakthrough in 2005. Two years later, he made this light-controlled switch for nerve cells work in the brains of living mice.

NEW: The anterior hypothalamic nucleus acts like a volume knob for stress, scaling the brain’s response to threatening events 🧠
Read the Cai Lab's latest paper, led by Zach Pennington, in @Nature 🎉

❓ Do you know what the anterior hypothalamic nucleus (AHN) does? No? Neither did we! 🧠
In a new preprint from the Cai Lab, learn how we discovered the AHN’s central role in regulating stress vulnerability.

Science moves faster when knowledge is shared openly… Well said!
Science moves faster when knowledge is shared openly.
From the time I entered graduate school, I became fascinated by what open sharing of data could do in fields as disparate as physics, art, and coding. Total strangers helping each other go further.
Sharing knowledge openly is part of the ethos of the @AllenInstitute. Every year, millions of people use our open data and tools to power their research, to learn, and even to make art. We take on foundational projects that are needed and are too big for any single lab to tackle, and build them from day one to be shared. We need to share and work together to accelerate science for a healthier world.
This #OpenScienceWeek, join me in celebrating the scientists and organizations everywhere who share their data, tools, and knowledge to accelerate discovery.

Congratulations to Ki Hong Lee & Moritz Jakab for their landmark paper in @NatureComms showing that endothelial cell Wnt-mediated angiocrine signaling in the liver is controlled by hemodynamic forces and not by oxygen gradients. Stunningly beautiful work! nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Amazing opportunity and a great mentor! Highly recommended!
We are so proud of Trevor and what he has achieved!
🎓Congratulations to Trevor Harriman, whose undergrad thesis work has been published in @BiophysJ
Trevor examined how hallmark neurodegeneration proteins affect brain capillaries' ability to sense and respond to signals.
