The HS2 trolls come out to claim HS2 is Green. Not one of them has ever come up with a justification for designing a railway for 250mph. It's the major factor why it is so expensive & so destructive. The carbon deficit of its construction & width needed is greater than a motorway
Can #HS2 opponents please RT this and show it to anyone who still argues for it?

Has the Planning Inspector lost the plot? The Isle of Wight has never been able to deliver this level of housing and yet the IOW council is being forced by the government's blunt and contextless housing targets.

Then you are a misinformed patsy…..the cost is in the wrong route, wrong spec and wrong design! The Chilterns full tunnel was costed at Β£350mn in 2015….the budget was Β£21.7bn back then….its now Β£100bn! That wasnt tunnels….we told them exactly this would happen!

HS2 broke planning rules High Court decides. What was supposed to be an easy route into Birmingham, with no need for a tunnel, has turned out to be fiendishly diificult & expensive. It is also much longer than the current route past Birm International. coventrytelegraph.net/news/l…

Pointing out the project was poorly conceived and has turned out to be a waste of cash isn’t briefing against it. It is pointing out the obvious which is that it shouldn’t have been started until a proper oversight was in place and people held to account if it failed.

I have mentioned the Ajax fighting vehicle fiasco many times β€” on Twitter, on my TV show and in a direct confrontation with the defence secretary. As for HS2 it’s clear it should never have been started and was an all-too predictable fiasco. But it might be too late to pull stumps. Open to persuasion either way.

Another ill-conceived & long delayed trunk road scheme put on hold for another rethink. Eliminate 3 bad roundabouts then leave 2 & add 1 to allow more car-dependent sprawl & sheds. Brilliant planning! constructionenquirer.com/202…

Β£200m for the Overground, which is 1% of the cost of the Β£20bn Elizabeth Line. Both carry the same amount of passengers p/day. Overground uses updated existing infrastructure, Elizabeth Line is mainly new. youtube.com/shorts/KrYzWRqya…

How many lies are there here? Too many to list. Β£31m was the cost of the whole scheme to Leeds & Manchester & beyond. Β£100m excludes Euston & north of Birmingham. French trains travel faster than 168mph. I helped design HS2 – this is why it is broken share.google/BQ08oijaAGRjqhJ…

HS2 docs said adding tunnels would save money. The stone (ballast) that supports conventional tracks disintegrates & damages trains & rails at the 186mh speed used on HS1. It would be stupid to use it at 225+mph & the time saving at such speeds is trivial. It was pure vanity.

HS2 picked routes without looking at the constraints or proposed developments. It ignored the risks of not knowing the ground conditions & the need for a very stable alignment to support high speed trains. This is a desperate attempt to change history to cover incompetence.

The owners of Thames Water have had their money and profit from us the customers; the creditors have made bad (or mad) lending decisions. It is not our job to rescue them, they are supposed to be experts and knew the risks. Let them learn the lesson.

Starmer's back out moaning about 'blockers' again. So we're going to help councils to get blocking. There is simply no need to build on an inch of green space... Keep an eye out here for our NEW councillor toolkit, coming very soon! @CommunityPlann1

The Ministerial Code by which all government ministers must comply can make interesting reading. "It is of paramount importance that ministers give accurate and truthful information to Parliament, correcting any inadvertent error at the earliest opportunity. Ministers who knowingly mislead Parliament will be expected to offer their resignation to the Prime Minister."

If you're really serious about dumping billions of pounds worth of unsustainable development in England's bread basket, then it's clear the powerful opposition to the #OxCamArc needs to be urgently revived. Meanwhile, how about some alternatives? tinyurl.com/2j5hvsfh

I expect @NationalHways would say this M1 motorway diverge is "to standards". It has finally collected the inevitable vehicle. How was this launching ramp not spotted by NH years ago. Compare with other countries to see how it should be done.

The key word is network: not the odd bike "lane" with white line paint. @TransportActio2 @bristol_citizen @Glutenfreescone @peteraf1 @HereforHereford @MastermanDavies @CityVoicEd @CommunityPlann1
β€œThe most effective approach is to build a network and built it as quickly as possible. But bike lanes alone do not make a network. In Dutch cities up to two thirds of the network is in mixed, low-traffic conditions, where the bike is the dominant mode.” wiseair.vision/en/blog/pensa…

ft.com/content/1de07a1c-613f… @FinancialTimes This is garbage. The additional cost added by changes rightly made through the Parliamentary process was not very significant. The problem was the process itself which did not scrutinise the principle or science first. It used whipped MPs.

Backhanders and corruption into the pockets of decision making politicians and their supporting advisors must clearly be at play within current UK decision making.
