War and states of emergency do not erase states’ #humanrights obligations.
Emergency powers must not become permanent instruments of governance.

The persecution of young women in Turkey continues: in İzmir, 36 people—most of them university students—have been held in custody since June 9 without an indictment. In the photo, the young women make heart signs with their hands—a powerful symbol of innocence, solidarity, and hope despite their detention. The accusations reportedly involve ordinary activities such as sharing a student home and expenses, meeting friends, and traveling. Despite concerns over health problems and disrupted education, the court extended their detention.

What happened today in #Üsküdar is a mockery of democracy, it's just normal that people reacted in tears. The whole system was perverted in order to win what was lost at the ballot box. It took arrests, defections, threats & today's 4 rounds of voting. It's a blatant power grab.

We learnt with deep sadness of the attack on the margins of Berlin #CSD. A woman was killed and 16 people were injured.
What was attacked was a peaceful assembly.
