HRD+ welcomes the International Criminal Court’s decision to unseal four arrest warrants against senior Taliban leaders for crimes against humanity of persecution.
This development marks an important step toward accountability and addressing impunity for systematic persecution in Afghanistan. HRD+ stands with the victims and calls on ICC States Parties to execute the warrants, expand accountability to all perpetrators, and pursue available avenues of universal jurisdiction.
We also emphasize the urgent need to establish the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Afghanistan (IIMA) to ensure the comprehensive documentation and preservation of evidence of crimes committed in Afghanistan.
