Dialogue Hub Statement on the Unsealing of Four ICC Arrest Warrants in the Situation in Afghanistan
Dialogue Hub for Common Ground welcomes the decision of the International Criminal Court to unseal four arrest warrants in the Situation in Afghanistan.
This development is an important step in the pursuit of accountability for serious crimes and violations committed in Afghanistan, particularly those affecting women, girls and others who have been subjected to persecution and systematic deprivation of their fundamental rights.
For us, accountability is ultimately about the victims their rights, their dignity, and their right to see justice pursued.
We call on the international community to support credible accountability processes, protect victims and witnesses, and ensure that evidence of serious violations is preserved.

A Message of Appreciation from Dialogue Hub for Common Ground
Dialogue Hub for Common Ground would like to express its sincere gratitude to all the artists, musicians, organizers, sponsors, partners, and guests who contributed to Blooming Afghanistan Art Resists, Hope Blooms.
A special thank you to Arash Barez for his powerful performance of “Azadi” (Freedom). This meaningful song carried a powerful message of freedom, hope, and resilience. We deeply appreciate the time, effort, and dedication Arash put into preparing and performing this piece. At a time when artistic and cultural expression in Afghanistan faces severe restrictions, keeping the voice of freedom alive through music is especially meaningful.
We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Dawood Pezhman for his outstanding performance and for sharing his beautiful voice and artistry with the audience.
Our sincere thanks go to all the talented musicians of the Aseman Ensemble for their remarkable performances, dedication, and contribution to keeping Afghan music, culture, and identity alive.
We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to all the sponsors and partners whose support, trust, and commitment made this meaningful event possible. For Dialogue Hub for Common Ground, it was a genuine honor and privilege to collaborate with such committed and inspiring partners.
A special note of appreciation goes to Hamrah for its generous financial support for the Dialogue Hub delegation invited to participate in these important programs. Your support made it possible for our representatives to be present, contribute to the discussions, and bring the voices and perspectives of Afghan communities to these important cultural and human rights spaces. We deeply value this solidarity and partnership.
Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, talent, resources, and support.
Art resists. Culture survives. Hope blooms. 🌱🎶

Civil Society Forum on the Operationalization of the IIMA | Geneva
On 6 September, Afghan civil society organisations, human rights defenders, victims’ and survivors’ representatives, researchers, and partners gathered in Geneva for a Civil Society Forum focused on the operationalization of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Afghanistan (IIMA).
I had the honour of moderating a dedicated dialogue with Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, focusing on the relationship between the Special Rapporteur’s mandate and the IIMA, and how these two mechanisms can complement and strengthen one another.
Our discussion explored:
🔹 How the IIMA can complement the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan
🔹 The relationship between the Special Rapporteur and the IIMA
🔹 Areas where the two mechanisms can reinforce each other
🔹 The support and cooperation the Special Rapporteur needs from Afghan civil society
🔹 How the Special Rapporteur and international mechanisms can support Afghan civil society and human rights defenders
The dialogue also provided an opportunity to reflect on the role of Afghan civil society in documentation, evidence-gathering, accountability, and ensuring that the experiences and priorities of victims and survivors remain central to international justice efforts.
I am grateful to Richard Bennett and all participants for an open and substantive exchange, and to CSHRN, HRD+ and partners for creating this space for Afghan civil society to engage directly on the future of accountability and justice for Afghanistan.
Meaningful accountability requires meaningful engagement with those documenting violations, supporting survivors, and working for human rights on the ground.

🎨 Afghanistan: Art Resists, Hope Blooms
On 7 September, alongside the opening of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the three-day exhibition “Afghanistan: Art Resists, Hope Blooms” opened, bringing the voices and artistic expressions of 14 Afghan artists from inside Afghanistan to Geneva.
The artworks were sent from Afghanistan, while the artists themselves followed the opening ceremony online from inside the country.
The opening brought together Richard Bennett, UN Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights, representatives from the UN cultural sector, and other guests. The programme included speeches and a musical performance, followed by three days of public engagement with the exhibition.
The exhibition created a space for Afghan artists to express resilience, preserve identity and culture, and share their perspectives with the international community at a time when artistic and cultural expression in Afghanistan faces significant restrictions.
Dialogue Hub for Common Ground was honoured to support this important initiative alongside the organising organisations and partner institutions.
For us, art is more than expression. It can preserve memory, carry stories across borders, and keep hope alive when many voices are silenced.
We are grateful to the Afghan artists, organisers, partners, and everyone who contributed to bringing their work and voices to Geneva. 🇦🇫🎨
