As the sun rises over Saint-Nazaire harbour, sailors of @HMSExample commemorate those lost in the sinking of RMS Lancastria at the site of the wreck.
Between 4,000 and 7,000 British troops are estimated to have been lost in the sinking, whilst evacuating France in 1940.

What a week! Following a change of command here on @HMSExample, we joined @HMS_Smiter to contribute to memorial events in Saint-Nazaire.
OPERATION CHARIOT, known as 'the greatest raid of all' was thought to be an impossible task, only successful due to the heroism of those involved.
We are grateful to the mayor, town and Saint-Nazaire Society for hosting a number of social, educational and memorial events.
On the 83rd anniversary of the raid, the memory of the Charioteers lives on.
