Thanks to @IASPpain for promoting our work in #PAIN where we discuss a new concept called prevention of nociceptor remodeling that can change the way we treat pain. By considering a patient's sex, we may be able to intervene early and prevent chronic pain from taking hold.
In this week’s #PAIN Featured Image, @HJStratton13 et al. explain how pre-operative prevention of psychological stress-induced sensitization of nociceptors in women can help prevent post-operative pain. Learn more at bit.ly/44bAVbY

Great to have this out: wonderful team effort, & nice to build on work from others that had identified the dysregulated osteoarthritis lipidome 😃
The sphingolipid sphingomyelin 34:1 is upregulated in the synovial fluid during OA. This study shows that SM34:1 causes inflammatory pain in mice and induces neuronal hyperexcitability. Great work: @psalmotoxin @interlukein @mayadannawi @LanhuiQiu @BeckyRickman @UnivCamPharm

Fascinating work shedding light on the role of stress and prolactin in post-surgical pain, especially in females. A big step toward more personalized pain management. Congrats to the team! Grateful to my mentor @HJStratton13 learned so much and was lucky to work with him on this!
Surgeries are a common source of #pain in the clinic. Check out our new paper published today in PNAS exploring how stress can lead to enhanced pain after surgery. We found that targeting prolactin can improve outcomes in females. @PNASNews.

We developed a novel monoclonal antibody that prevented stress induced hypersensitivity in a humanized mouse model of post surgical pain. Hoping this will lead to rapid #translation to the clinic!
Shout out to my co-first author @mahdidolatyari1 and all the other team members from the Porreca lab! @AubinMoutal and team made essential contributions to this study. Hoping to explore this more in the clinic with our MD collaborators! #Science #MedTwitter
