In a taped message, Christianne Amanpour tells viewers of her CNN International show “Amanpour” that she is leaving the network.
While she hewed fairly closely to her statement, she added this: “You know that I’ve always been fiercely independent, and I will continue to be that for you for as long as I am here and beyond. That’s especially important today as we face unprecedented pressures from all sides — political, financial, and also from the rising dangers in the field.”

We appreciate the support we’ve gotten today for our photographer, Heidi Levine, after the brutal and unwarranted attack on her. We reiterate the call for action from the government. Press freedoms are a cornerstone for democracies.

Reporters must be able to work without violence, intimidation, or interference from police or protesters.

Another case of the Israeli Army claiming they fired at a Palestinian running at them "posting a threat" who turns out was running away from them & unarmed. Unfortunately for the IDF, the NYT was on the scene to document the truth. nytimes.com/2026/10/16/world…

There’s an infamously violent outpost on top of the hill above Abu Falah. The village planned their olive harvest for yesterday morning on their land directly beneath the hill. Piecing these things together and showing up is called “journalism.” Hope that helps Richard.

Civilians and journalists should never be targets. I'm horrified by attacks on Palestinian villagers and Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine. This attack, along with reports that nearby Israeli security forces did not intervene, demands a full investigation and real accountability—as do the many other instances of settler violence against Palestinian civilians and land in the West Bank.
This is exactly why I introduced the West Bank Violence Prevention Act. Extremist settler violence, which endangers lives and undermines peace and security in the region, must end.
Dozens of masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers trying to gather their autumn olive harvest. Heidi Levine, a veteran photographer for The Post, was also knocked her to the ground, kicked repeatedly and stripped of her camera and phone.

Heidi Levine has lived in Israel for 43 years.
And raised her 3 children there…
I am pretty sure she’s not a fucking terrorist.
The journalists at the @washingtonpost should themselves be investigated by the Israeli police and the @IDF as to who they are traveling with, their contacts, including relationships with terrorist organizations, foreign antizionist radicals and extremists, and their exact role in potentially inciting or instigating or engaging in violence against Israeli civilians.

Several elected officials condemned the attack on Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine, who was beaten and injured by masked Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

Netanyahu called me a liar when settlers detained me, along with a NYT photographer, in Zanuta this past July.
Now, he is calling a Washington Post photographer a liar.
Netanyahu, you are the liar with the blood of Palestinian children on your hands.
The Prime Minister’s Office:
The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation.
Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable.
But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual.
The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence.
We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.
The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

In this footage, they are stealing her stuff, not helping her. Her phone, camera, etc were all taken from her by the settlers.

Today, another American citizen & journalist was brutalized by Israeli settlers attacking Palestinians in the West Bank.
This repeated violence & brazen impunity for attacks against Americans & Palestinians alike are unacceptable.
When will Trump & Rubio DO SOMETHING?

#Germany 🇩🇪: CPJ is concerned that Hamburg authorities demanded Die Zeit’s interview recordings under a search warrant for use in a criminal trial.
@zeitonline handed over the recordings under protest and sealed them while challenging the seizure.
Journalists’ work depends on the trust of their sources and the confidentiality of their communications. Authorities must respect source protection.

The reported attack on Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine by West Bank settlers is unconscionable and a moment of reckoning for the world. Are we going to tolerate accelerating vigilante violence against Palestinian civilians and foreign observers by right-wing vigilantes who operate with government protection? Given that Trump lifted President Biden's sanctions on vigilante settlers, we must work to end this chaos and insist upon protection of human rights and the rule of law on the West Bank.

To be clear: Some facts are neither in dispute nor unclear. Our photographer was clearly marked as Press. She was clearly beaten. These are not partisan or risible statements, but indisputable. We urge a thorough investigation and accountability.
