I wrote an article about Edmund Burke and plantation slavery. It chopped and changed a lot in the review process, but I think it contains some insights that others might find useful. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.…
Pistol-whipping aspirants+devotees of classical literature+defenders of liberty: Burke+Fox had many similarities, but the French Revolution severed their friendship. Here's my @IndependentInst review of James Grant's eminently readable+entertaining new book on their relationship.

Join us if you are in the Philly region for a great series to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Smith’s Wealth of Nations!
This fall, the Penn Initiative for the Study of Markets (which I direct) has organized a series of events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the publication of “The Wealth of Nations.”
The flyer provides all details. All events are open to the public. Registration is encouraged for the seminars, but it is required for the special exhibition because physical space at the library is limited. Registered participants will also have the opportunity to receive a free Liberty Fund edition of “The Wealth of Nations.”

Yesterday I mixed together peanuts, fruit snacks, chips, Polynesian sauce, and whipped cream during my @UMaine Constitution Day lecture to show how experimentation can be perilous in the kitchen *and* in politics. Many thanks to Rob Ballingall for the invitation. @JackMillerCtr
