What better present could you get for Christmas than a PhD?
Yesterday I defended my thesis ahead of my prize lecture in York on Tuesday. Thanks to Dr. Fielden (@FieldenStephen), Prof. McGonigal (@mcgonigalgroup), and Prof. Harrowven (virtually) for examining my thesis!

It's an honour to receive this award and I'm looking forward to sharing my PhD work in my prize lecture at this year's @RSC_MASC meeting in York.
I can't thank my lab mates in the @GoldupLab and @sgoldup for the support over the years. This is equally their award as it is mine.
We are delighted to announce that the 2024 RSC MASC Group PhD Thesis Award given in memory of John Fossey is awarded to Peter Gallagher @PeterrGallagher from the University of Birmingham. Peter works in the group of @sgoldup
Many congratulations!

Thanks to the @SupraParis2024 team for the excellent science, hospitality, views and the opportunity to meet with old (lots of @GoldupLab alumni!) and new friends in supramolecular chemistry. A huge success and many happy memories!

A great poster session presenting our recent work in the @GoldupLab at @SupraParis2024 on mechanical stereoisomers and their stereoselective syntheses đđ
Thankfully everyone was primed and ready to talk stereochemistry after @sgoldup's talk yesterday!

The @sgoldup group @UoBChemistry present a platform for the synthesis of mechanically caged molecules, a macrocycle that can be modified to open in response to triggers. Mechanical caging is an old dog but this opens the field to new tricks! #openaccess onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/âŚ

đ¨Last minute announcementđ¨ Unfortunately Mujeeb Alam canât make it today. Luckily Abed Saady @e_saady from the @GoldupLab is going to present his work on mechanically caged molecules â lots of lovely rotaxanes! See you at 14.30 UK time!

Today at #SupraChemDays2023 I had a great meeting with @PeterrGallagher from the @GoldupLab. We exchanged our experiences in the synthesis of rotaxanes and had a good talk about the life of a PhD student. It was a great discussion, looking forward towards your future endeavors!

TLDR: 1. There's a new way to make chiral catenanes & rotaxanes efficiently. Now we're going to see what we can do with our new toy. 2. Always listen to your supervisor, unless they're wrong, in which case don't. 3. Thanks to the team (and the reviewers who did an excellent job)!

Really fun night đ And apparently we'd all been good this year, so Santa brought us gifts. Even though it was a lucky dip, everyone got exactly what they needed. I got mint-flavoured diabetes. Mandeep got the solution to all her scientific problems.

I'm very excited to announce that the @GoldupLab will be moving to @UoBChemistry in 2023! Lots of exciting things happening @unibirmingham including a beautiful new building. And apparently itâs the place to be for Supramolecular Chemistry - we didnât want to miss out!đ
