My pre-Twitter life was from ca.1520–1589. Garamont and Granjon were my contemporaries at the time. Today, Dr. Frank E. Blokland voices my thoughts via Twitter.

Last Friday, the exhibition Rosart: Revival of a Punchcutter opened in the Janskerk (Noord-Hollands Archief) in Haarlem. Rosart was not highly regarded by his contemporaries and now it is time for a revaluation. The expo runs until June 30, 2023. See also: rosart.nl

First Teaser of our soon to be released “Le Rosart” typeface family. “Le Rosart” is a revival based on the types cut by Jacques-François Rosart in the 18th century. The project started at the Expert Class Type Design of the Plantin Institute for Typography in Antwerp in 2015.

DTL’s [Gros] Canon Project (dutchtypelibrary.nl/GCR_Proj… and youtube.com/watch?v=zFzc4o54…) further continues with the reproduction/adaptation of the GI48 by Hugh Macfarlane: probably the oldest surviving mould (Museum Plantin-Moretus) dating from around the second half of the 16th century.

Those who wonder what these two dinosaurs –of which no doubt one has died out– have to do with ‘Reviving Type’, or, for example, the restoration of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel on the attached image, can find some more information here: typedrawers.com/discussion/3… (bottom page).
