A new project I've been working on: Infinite canvas where you can drop and organize all the audio files, play, select sections, link selections, play them in loop and perform some operations like add effects and preview before dropping them in your fav DAW youtu.be/Zrl9xgu_Nts

I've just gone and put the work in and completely rewrote the parametric polymorphic engine in the Odin compiler, which has now allowed me to add loads of brand new features, things which were not really possible with the previous approach.

“My natural language processing engine which muxes arbitrary data from the Internet made a knockoff of things other people built and published for free!!”
Replying to @ankkala
Crazy how this happened after, and not a second before, a Linux graphical debugger codebase was MIT’d
And no, he didn’t “make” anything

I resigned from Khronos Group today. I spent the last three years doing graphics API research at Khronos and Microsoft. Neither of them is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-increasing lines of code per triangle and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

We've updated the Odin website's frontpage, to showcase the people who ship.

One thing I really dislike: the concept of "Design Patterns".
It makes no ontological sense, as the causation runs backwards. You abstract a pattern only after seeing it recur, never before.
Don't apply "patterns" first: that's actually anti-abstraction.

I'm not sure at what point this entitlement settled in that perpetual licenses must also include perpetual updates? Do people think good software grows on trees?
When did we suddenly OWE you anything?

How much of this feverish "I spend all day typing to AI and it does my bidding, it's incredible!" is because these people have never gotten to order anyone around before, and now they feel kind of power-hungry?
Don't you dare take away my 10 min coffee breaks that I take every hour or so because I changed a variable name in a templated class.
People state that all of these compile-time abstractions that many languages offer are worth the cost because they allow for loads of "zero-cost" abstractions. However, this compile-time tradeoff people describe as being good would be fine if it were real.
In practice, virtually none of the long-compile-time projects I've worked on ever produced a program that was fast, or whose size anyone cared about. You pay the cost of compile time and don't get the performance. People state this hypothesis as if it is fact, even when the evidence shows it is wrong.
The other cost nobody accounts for is developer iteration speed. If your builds take 1 second, you program in a fundamentally different style than if they take 6 minutes. And I've yet to see a style that justifies 6-minute builds, even on medium-to-large projects. Our projects at work are Odin, 500–700 KLOC, and they compile in 1–2 seconds; Not MINUTES.
Compile-times are something people get used to, and they don't realize how bad it is until they experience another project (or language) that is orders of magnitude faster. We should not be putting up with slow things based on a provably false hypothesis.

Jai is the new programming language used for the development of Order of the Sinking Star. Not too long after the game releases, focus will switch to the compiler, working first toward a binary release, then, eventually a source release. 🧑💻

Thank you for using Odin to create such an amazing video editor!
And thank you for donating towards the development of Odin.
We just donated $1,000 of what we've made from Blick to @odinlang. This is the first of annual donations we will be making to The Odin Programming Language.
Blick would not have been made this well, this easily and this fast without Odin. It has been a joy to use, unmatched in its consistency, reliability and versatility.
We are massively grateful for @TheGingerBill's craftsmanship, diligence and care, and for the rest of the Odin team behind him.

I sure am enjoying all this great new software we have due to 3 years of massively amplified productivity due to AI...!
Just finished first pass of optimization. All the gaps were "MemoryManagement" reported superluminal (@SuperluminalSft). Added per thread growing arena and using temp arena where there was allocate-free or temp_allocator was used. Works very well with Multi-core by default (1/2)
