"Two weeks after giving birth to my youngest child, I lost my husband.
For more than three years, I depended on my mother for almost everything. Debts kept piling up, rent here, and school fees there for over a year. I wanted to work but I just had nothing to start with.
The day I received my first $170 from GiveDirectly, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I cleared my debts first then built something for myself by starting a grocery shop that became successful.
I then noticed that there was no one selling fast food nearby, so I started a second business selling fried potatoes in the evenings.
Today, I pay for my oldest child's university education and this makes me so proud of myself.
I also help my mother out from time to time. That means everything to me because for more than three years, she was the one holding us up.
I went from depending on my mother for everything to being able to stand on my own feet again."

Today marks halfway through 2026, so we're announcing the launch of the 50/50 Pledge!
The pledge is simple: give half or more of your annual donations to high-impact nonprofits recommended by experts. Keep the rest for the causes that mean the most to you.
Giving pledges typically focus on 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 you give. The 50/50 Pledge is about 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 you give.
Why? Because the most impactful charities can often do 100x more good per dollar than typical charities. For example, @EvidenceAction's Deworm the World program protects children from parasitic worm infections in low-income countries for under $0.50 per child.
But most of us also care about supporting causes close to our hearts, like a local food bank or animal shelter.
Giving Multiplier’s 50/50 Pledge strikes a balance between the "feel good" and "do good" of charitable giving, with a clear goal to work toward each year.

𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀!
You can now earn up to 90% on top of your donations using Giving Multiplier. That's up to $45 added to your $50 donation.
Why now? Thanks to hundreds of generous matching donors, we have a strong surplus of match funds, and we want to put them to work sooner rather than later.
(Matching rates are assessed periodically and are subject to change.)
