Our moronic food system
Ban pesticide products here
Make U.K. products more expensive
Then import cheaper food from foreign farmers produced with the banned pesticides and undermine our farmers
❌ Imported cereals, fruit and vegetables have been found to carry residues from 48 pesticides which British farmers are banned from using.

What’s your definition of a weed Andy? #organic
Hello Soil Association! Just checked your site and followed. As a farmer and soil nut, I applaud your cause. However I disagree on some of the above statements. 1. Biodiversity no doubt is higher, but I suspect this includes weed and pest species 2. Wont argue the bees. We don’t use insecticides on our farm unless absolutely necessary (maybe 1 in 7-10 years) for this very reason, it kills all insects in its path. 3. This is where we diverge heavily. Organic animal production is legislated to have no antibiotics, penicillins and most medications. This compromises animal welfare in a big way as a sick cow, pig, etc cannot be treated with life saving drugs and continue in the organic food supply. Essentially only the strongest and healthiest survive for the organic market, which is great for the end users but terrible for weaker animals. There should be no restrictions on medications, and yes I understand they usually get treated and pulled from the herd however this is a fundamental flaw when discussing animal welfare 4. This is one that I really need to see your data source, please provide it. Organic grain farming is very destructive to soil health, as the same practices are used as the dirty thirties in North America when the dust bowls ruled the prairies. Tillage is the foundation of organic grain production, and it degrades soil health immensely. I cannot under any circumstance see organic soils store more carbon than conventional ag and I feel this misleads readers. I have an open mind and can admit if I’m wrong but I’ve never seen an scientific journal support this claim.
Basically I’m on the side of truth in ag, as non-ag people get info from sites as these. Am I incorrect in my post? Is there data supporting the statements above?

We went organic in 2000 and we’re fully organic by 2002. best decision ever. Might not work for everyone.

Fields of monoculture like grasses/pastures, wheat/grains with no margins only provide living space for certain insects as they are very site specific. They need common weeds like thistles, dandelions, nettles. Here’s some essential reading

We are doing all the right things. Including not going organic. Which doesn’t work.
Beautiful day for the assessment of the wheat trial at Madresfield Estate near Malvern. The selected winter wheats look great, disease levels low. Looking forward to #harvest
As the family is bouncing around the house thanks to the reply from a much loved celebrity - organic does work. 2 hugely successful decades on I would not change it. But all the best for going down the regenerative road. It’s a good start for allowing nature & soils to recover
