Onetime French Embassy in #AdamsMorgan, 1925 (with Ambassador Émile Daeschner and his family) and last week. Yes, the Roaring 20s were a long time ago. Although this neighborhood's actually a lot more happening than it was then

On this date in 1961: The 23rd Amendment (allowing DC to vote for President) hit the required approval of 2/3 of state legislatures (thx OH & KS!) & went into effect
This map shows how states voted. Gray states (see a pattern?) never got around to it (Really, VA?!?) #DCStatehood

Came across one of the DC boundary stones today while visiting a new park named after Benjamin Banneker. I told my daughter they used giant gems to set the boundaries—I may have oversold it. @DCHistory @GhostsofDC @WhiteHouseHstry

This is a photo from 1890 showing Lincoln conspirator Mary Surratt’s old home in Washington, D.C. The home still stands today and is a Chinese restaurant called Wok and Roll. Yes, seriously. coololdphotos.com/lincoln-co…

Reflecting on the #MarchOnWashington anniversary & recent loss of life in our community, I know we've been fighting a long time.
My grandfather wrote this in @washingtonpost when I was 6 yrs old after a 4yr old was killed. That was 20+ yrs ago. He could've written it today.

@GhostsofDC One of my earliest childhood memories was walking with my Mom or Grandmother somewhere in DC or Georgetown. We stopped at a storefront with a giant Planter's Mr. Peanut in the window. Would have been in the late 60's. Anyone remember where this was?

Old DC streetcar tracks are exposed while the 1900 block of 11th Street, NW is resurfaced. First horse-drawn then later electrified, old maps show it was the 60 line. The route is now plied by the @wmata 64 bus.
