As a disability rights advocate and a plague nerd, I am begging you to remember that there are many polio survivors still living, that they led the first wave of the modern disability rights movement, and you should TALK TO THEM.
Despite abundance of Gold, Diamond, bauxite, cocoa, Ghana has the least if not the poorest social welfare services in the world. No support for families raising children with disabilities, no health insurance coverage with disability assistive devices, etc
Economic definitions of social problems has proven time and time again to exclude cultural and social values sustaining economic growth. but when systems fail, money is part and partial of the problem.
At the height of the pandemic, shifting to working and studying from home top health restrictions to control the spread of the virus. Let not forget, #PWDs have been advocating for modification of this kind to meet their needs. Time to maintain the practice of working from home.
Imagine, you have no university degree and almost everyone you meet for the first asks you the questions“why you don’t have a degree? what happens? Some even attempts to offer you an explanation of your lack of a degree. that is what many PWDs deal with on daily basis.

why do academics think it is ok to expect service users and others be involved in research without the choice of being paid for it, when they themselves expect to be paid. More on this recent experience shortly.
Accessibility empowers, denying it oppresses the fundamental freedoms and rights of people with disabilities. @BBCAfrica @BBCWorld @CBMuk @UN @GHOneTV @Citi973 @JoyNewsOnTV @Joy997FM @DPI_Info @iddcconsortium @advocacynsw @SR_Disability @Adv4Inclusion
Without the lived experiences of people with disabilities, the conversation about accessibility is incomplete @GhanaSomubi @CBMuk @UN
Accessibility requires a conscious mind shift, a will to constantly attain and maintain equality and equity in programs and services and not the mere enactment of policies, laws, and regulations. @UN @TheGhanaWeb @GhanaSomubi
Inclusion refers not to special treatment nor does accessibility. It is a conscious effort to ensure services and programs equally reach to all citizens regardless of their differences and limitations. @CBMworldwide @Sightsavers @UN @GhanaSomubi
Society has failed to understand the concept of disability by hidden disability during formulation of major economic, social, economic, technological and environmental policies. The result; many people affected by disability scramble to participate in these policies.
Advocacy for accessibility and inclusion should focuses on the person with a disability not the disability. Let the person rises above the disability not falls before the disability. Leave beyond the disability not within and by the disability.
Dear non disabled people. when a disabled person reply, i am fine. believe it and shut-up. wearing a brace, crutches, limbs, and wheelchairs does not mean all wearers are unwell.

Significantly this systematic review found ZERO interventions promoting access to maternal health, family planning and contraception, or safe abortion for people with disabilities in LMICs! #SRHR #Health #Disabilities

Could this Egyptian stele portrays of a priest with a withered leg suggest disability exclusion in employment and important decision making processes came with modernization?
It is unthinkable when the focus of disability inclusion emphasized on assessment and placement instead of independent living. Independent living amount to assessing the obstacles that further reduce the mobility of the disabled.
A powerful article by an architecture calling colleagues of consider people with disabilities in the design of buildings. it is worth reading for those interested in disability inclusion. emiworld.org/emi-tech/access…
