In the heyday of electric trams in London, Kensington did not have a single inch of tramway. Campaigners claimed trams would bring an “undesirable” class of person.
About 85 yrs later, Kensington’s thinly veiled prejudice is still here; it hasn’t a single inch of safe cycleway.

This is the BBC's Environment Correspondent describing a video, widely shared by troll accounts, of a man shouting and swearing near families in a residential street as "brilliant".
This led to a one-sided piece on LTNs which was devoid of any fact-checking.

Remember: the reason we are locking down for a 3rd time is because of the government’s failure to contain the virus. Containment means an effective test, trace, isolate and support system. Our system was handed to cronies and profiteers, and the £12bn spent on it was wasted.

Why am I so interested in one cycle lane? Because what’s happened in Kensington is a loss for London’s entire transport system. It’s also a metaphor for how active travel may be treated up and down the country.
It turns out a lot of other people are interested too.

Heads up: @RBKC have removed the cycle tracks overnight without putting up any signage to warn anyone beforehand so anyone cycling to school is likely to be unaware that this was coming.
Totally normal behaviour.

Before it's even finished, sources say the Kensington High Street cycle lane will be removed from tomorrow.
If politicians cannot show even the tiniest bit of leadership required to keep one cycle lane in, I have no idea how they're going to handle the threat of climate change.

Eleven years ago I told my husband that I was pregnant with our third child. “Wow,” he said. “We’re going to need a bigger car.”

I've just spoken to one of the @tfl data scientists. She said the weekend cycle figures were so high she thought the system had broken. She checked. It hadn’t. They’re just up almost 300% at the high flow sites. Wow! #StreetspaceLDN 🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲🚲

We sacrificed so much to buy the government time to build an effective Test and Trace system.
They handed it to private contractors, messed it up, and now we're back to square one.
We should be beyond furious.

Over 100 parody car advert posters have been installed on billboards and bus stops without permission by a guerilla activist group in England & Wales. A lot of the messages will probably look familiar. #carculture streetartnews.net/2020/09/gu…

If the NHS will to support it, I could roll out the German Corona-Warn-App (privacy respecting, official diagnosis rather than self-reporting as I understand it) in short time at zero cost to the taxpayers.
If the government can't pull themselves together, we can.
