People need access to the law more than ever to protect their #workplace rights. I start today at Bellevue Law to further focus my work on #employment #discrimination and advocate for a legal system where everyone can be heard:

If an employer asked for a reference, for example, a former institution could state that the person had been dismissed for misconduct. As things stand, neither party is required to request or provide such information and the new institution might not know to ask @GeorginaCLee
Employment law specialist Calvert-Lee @GeorginaCLee suggests that institutions should ask former employers to disclose the number of misconduct findings against a potential employee, or whether there were any outstanding investigations when the person left nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

Pleased to have been quoted in this excellent article by Katie Tarrant⁦. This case is v important for clearing up confusion over whether a Uni owes students a duty of care, and underlining the importance of a fair investigation. ⁦@ProtectED_HEI⁩ thetimes.co.uk/article/drama…

Looking forward to this docu series, throwing fresh light on campus culture. Glad to have been interviewed for it too, to share insights gained over years at the coal face of representing students whose sexual misconduct claims have been mishandled. @1752Group @UKCultureShift
As many of you know, somewhere along this crazy journey, we’ve started a nonprofit called Change Campus Culture 💙 Under this nonprofit, we’re working on a docu-series called Unsafe Spaces which aims to shed light on the endemic of sexual violence at UK universities 🎬

Lengthening the time for bringing an employment claim would be an important reform that lawyers have been calling for for years too. @SuzanneMcKieQC @rightsofwomen There is no reason why a victim of a pub brawl should have 3 years and a victim of discrimination only 3 months!

Fantastic session with Dame Sharon White, discussing the role of mentors in achieving your best at work, and the need for flexibility at work and shared domestic burdens. Last point: choose your partner well! #womeninworksummit2023

If the UK were to eradicate the gender pay gap, the UK’s economy would grow by £6 trillion per Ian Elliot of PWC. Equality benefits all stakeholders, and helps achieve and grow the bottom line. #womeninworksummit2023

Interesting cross-party ministerial discussion on the barriers to equal treatment at work facing women: women are not a minority yet they still have to shoehorn themselves into a work world made for and by men. @rightsofwomen #womeninwork2023

Very important ruling. The impact & consequence of mental health injury can far outstrip physical injury, and so should be accorded more prominence and recognition in all types of cases. The damages you can win for lifelong psychiatric harm is quite derisory at present. @EVAWuk
A landmark ruling that Kellie Sutton was unlawfully killed even though she took her own life, linking domestic abuse directly to her Suicide Like Kellie’s family & others, we will never stop fighting for the justice our darling daughter Emily deserves 💔 m.youtube.com/watch?v=idzLAi…

This is a really fantastic summary of the good changes being made in the #onlineharmsbill to protect victims of intimate image abuse. Thank you @McGlynnClare and @erikarackley for all your hard work and research. It is paying off!
Heard about the changes being made to laws sharing intimate images without consent? Finally, after so many survivors raised their voices - their calls for change have been heard. Here is some of that history & recognition of the survivors #FirstStep theconversation.com/if-someo…

Aren’t victims of modern slavery often victims of human trafficking too, which also often uses illegal means of bringing them to the UK. If so, it seems ridiculous to exclude these victims from support. Thanks for flagging this @shaistaAziz #illegalmigrationbill. @centreWJ
.@OxfordCity is a signatory to open letter to the Home Secretary highlighting concerns about modern slavery clauses in #IllegalMigrationBill. The Bill states modern slavery support provisions will be disapplied to victims of human trafficking, arriving in UK via irregular routes.

In case you missed the launch of @anna_bull_ and @Erin_R_Shannon’s report on Higher Ed after #MeToo, you can catch up on YouTube. Great to be part of a vibrant discussion with @deebasyed (@rightsofwomen) @oiahe and @acasorguk with astute questions from attendees. @ProtectED_HEI
The video of my report launch event is now up on Youtube. The panel discussion with key experts @deebasyed @GeorginaCLee @oiahe and @acasorguk was extremely rich if you're interested in how institutions handle formal reports (from about 40 mins in). youtube.com/watch?v=u1sUj6cK…

Please spread the work about this very exciting study on sexual and gender based violence in Universities. This call is for survivors, academics, activists, and policymakers in South Africa.
We are looking to recruit participants for our project fieldwork in South Africa. This is a @UKRI_News funded research project called ‘FemIDEAS: Decolonising sexual and gender-based violence in Higher Education’ based at the University of Westminster. femideas.com

The law banning intimate image abuse has not improved since my client @ChrissyChambers successfully settled her landmark claim. The crime should not require an intention to cause distress. The victim is hurt regardless of the perp’s intention. #IntimateImageAbuse @NotYourPorn

It’s been another glorious evening on our #allotment! @OtterlyElz and I lovlearning more about how to grow food, it involves patience and trial and error. We harvested garlic, runner beans, spinach & mint. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the potatoes, carrots and cabbages.

Thank you for highlighting @ProfLAppleby Lived experience is crucial to learning @TheLearnNetwork our children’s stories, #UniversityStudents have been shamefully labelled as just ‘anecdotal’ by some @VCUWE @JohndePury Learning must happen. @ForThe100_ @NickFletcherMP #change
Without doubt, the main reason #suicideprevention has risen up the political agenda is not better evidence, though we have that too, but the campaigning of bereaved families. As we get closer to a new national strategy, their powerful stories of personal tragedy remain crucial.
