We condemn the horrific killing of a migrant in the Durban CBD this morning. @SAPoliceService all those found to be responsible and part of the group that attacked the man, must be arrested and prosecuted. No one has the right to take another person’s life, regardless of the reason. This attack is not an isolated incident. It represents the latest wave in a rising tide of violence against migrants in South Africa. The justice system must start acting as a deterrent to these attacks and killings.
@GovernmentZA has a legal obligation to protect everyone within its borders, regardless of nationality or immigration status. This includes taking strong measures to combat xenophobia, hatred and discrimination, preventing violence, responding swiftly when attacks occur, and ensuring justice for victims. Stronger political will is needed to put an end to discrimination against migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Xenophobia must be rejected. The right to life must be protected.
Everyone has human rights, regardless of nationality, language, documentation or where they call home.

It is unacceptable that the @CityTshwane did not warn people that the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works had failed to chlorinate water that supplies residents and their homes. This failure has resulted in more than 400 cases of gastrointestinal illnesses being reported in the metro. @GovernmentZA @CityTshwane must ensure that all those responsible for this abhorrent failure are held accountable.
A reminder: access to safe, sufficient and reliable water is a fundamental human right that must be protected and upheld. As we head to the polls in the upcoming local government elections, we have the opportunity to demand accountability, and vote for a country where human rights come first.

Femicide is the killing of a woman or girl, because of her gender. South Africa continues to experience one of the highest femicide rates in the world. But it is currently not recognised as a crime. That needs to change – which requires major changes and action from every sector of society, including and especially men.

#sapsHQ [ACTING NATIONAL COMMISSIONER LT GEN DIMPANE ISSUES STATEMENT FOLLOWING ACTS OF VIOLENCE IN SOWETO AND DURBAN]
Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has issued a stern warning to those involved in violent protests in Soweto and Durban.
This follows the torching of ten cars in Soweto and 14 in Durban during protests outside Home Affairs offices assisting asylum seekers.
Three foreign nationals have been arrested, while shops belonging to foreign nationals have also been looted amid the unrest.
The protests are linked to claims that a recent Constitutional Court ruling on asylum applications gives undocumented foreign nationals a blanket amnesty.
"The South African Police Service will not tolerate lawlessness. We will not allow violence, the torching of vehicles, destruction of property or attacks on people to continue.
Anyone who chooses to break the law will be dealt with decisively, without fear or favour.
Those behind the torching of vehicles will be pursued. Those responsible for acts of violence and destruction will be identified, investigated and, where sufficient evidence exists, arrested and brought to book.
There will be consequences for criminality. The right to raise concerns and to protest does not give anyone the right to commit crime. Legitimate grievances must be pursued through lawful and constitutional processes.," said Lt Gen Dimpane.

We are concerned by the violence and reports of looting in Durban and Soweto in relation to the issue of asylum seekers. We condemn the mis and disinformation that is fuelling xenophobia. @SAPoliceService anyone found to be involved in the violence must be held accountable. More must be done to ensure that the right to safety for everyone who lives in South Africa is protected. No citizen has the right to block people from seeking asylum.
Everyone has human rights, regardless of nationality, language, documentation or where they call home.

Yassass, I have never, in nearly 20 years of journalism and in 16 years of being on this app, seen so much wrong information about a judgment, the Constitutional Court and the law. I am dismayed.

Three years after the deadly Hamas-led attacks of 7 October and the start of Israel’s brutal military assault on Gaza Palestinian civilians continue to endure catastrophic suffering amid Israel's ongoing genocide. Justice for victims of all crimes in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory remains out of reach.
The world must stop turning its back on humanity.
States must act now to end the genocide, halt arms transfers, dismantle Israel’s system of apartheid and unlawful occupation, and support justice for all victims.
