Some people put their ideas out in the world and hope they catch on. Not Gloria Steinem. Through her writing, her speeches, and her organizing, she demanded that the world pay attention to all the ways that women had been — and in some cases, still are — treated unfairly. And she helped awaken us to problems like domestic violence, the lack of affordable child care, and unfair hiring practices that had too often been ignored or overlooked. Gloria really was larger than life. Today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Michelle and I are thinking of her family today, and everyone — women and men — who were inspired by her towering example.

I’ve been keeping a list of all the news stories dominating my algorithm and the general news cycle in 2026. It is wild to see how quickly we move on and sometimes even forget some of these things.

Every day, people across America are forced to choose between their families and their paycheck. I’ve focused on paid leave for years because everyone should be able to care for a newborn, recover from illness, or support a loved one without worrying about losing their job. I’m encouraged to see lawmakers from both parties come together to introduce legislation that would make life easier for so many families. 👏
🚨 Exciting news! The Senate just introduced companion legislation to the House Bipartisan #PaidFamilyLeave Working Group’s bill, the More Paid Leave for More Americans Act. 👏 We applaud this bicameral leadership to help families access #PFML. ow.ly/tSRQ50ZoAgz

Reports that the White House has dismissed the remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission — all of whom were unanimously confirmed by the Senate, including a commissioner appointed by President Trump himself — should concern every American, regardless of party, because the EAC was established by Congress as an independent, bipartisan body to help states administer secure and credible elections. If these reports are accurate, removing every remaining commissioner just months before the 2026 midterm elections is an extraordinary step that demands an immediate explanation from the administration and raises profound concerns about political interference in the institutions that support our elections.

Been seeing a variation of this going around. You don’t need ID to get into the Obama Presidential Center museum. You only need it if you want the discounted rate for Illinois residents for Tuesday Illinois Free Days. And everything but the museum is public/non-ticketed anyway.

Barack Obama "is really messed up. I'm giving him some time because this beautiful skirt that my stylist Meredith Koop picked out that is my favorite portrait of my mom. He didn't know it existed until just a few minutes ago. I've had a few weeks to settle down" - Michelle Obama

It means so much to Barack and me to open up the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. This is where I grew up, where Barack got his start, and where we raised our girls. So having a place where kids from our community can see themselves, connect with each other, and channel their hope—there’s nothing more powerful than that.

Barack and I were so honored to have @AkunyiliCrosby create our portrait for the Obama Presidential Center. Her artistic brilliance shines through — and the way she infused such life and joy into the piece is truly extraordinary. We love it, and we think everyone who visits the Center will too!

Mifepristone is a safe, essential medicine that so many women depend on in some of the hardest moments of their lives. When access to this care is taken away, the need doesn’t vanish. It just becomes harder to meet—and far more dangerous. Last year, while visiting Louisiana to understand how the shifting landscape is affecting our communities, I heard heartbreaking stories from mothers denied treatment during grave crises in their pregnancies and doctors forced to delay care when every minute counts. Friday’s ruling is a blow to families across the country, who suffer when women are stripped of the ability to make decisions about their own health and futures. Everyone deserves health care that’s guided by science, not politics. apnews.com/article/abortion-…
