NEW in @playbookdc:
September polling from @EquisResearch finds that among likely Latino voters, Texas Dem governor candidate @GinaHinojosaTX leads Greg Abbott 59-35, a sign of the growing strength of her campaign.
Her biggest issue: name ID. 27% of Texas Latinos can't rate Hinojosa.
The new numbers come as Latino Democrats urge the Democratic Governors Association to put money behind Hinojosa.
She currently faces a huge financial disadvantage and is being outspent by Abbott roughly 10-to-1.
Cheers to @Elenzner on the 4EYE Film Center launch and congrats to Josh Greenbaum on Playing POTUS, a star-studded doc on how comedians satirize Presidents. The film is smart and hilarious. Very fun to share war stories on stage with @nancycordes @tuckereskew.

“There’s been not enough attention on her race. Gina is running really a spectacular campaign, and I’m really pleased to be able to support her. And I think hopefully we’re going to see others join in in supporting her, as they have been for James Talarico.” - @JBPritzker 👑

To win the presidency in 2028, the nominee will have to win Wisconsin. And states like it. Grateful to @rahnamepting and @XochitlHinojosa for launching this project to keep everyone's eye on the ball.
And in the meantime, let's pave the path to 270 with blue leaders this Nov!
Hi friends. I think we all could use a lot more winning in our lives. Excited to launch this new project w @XochitlHinojosa heading into 2028. LFG!

.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?”
@JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them.
They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection.
And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”
brilliant move. grateful that smart strategists like @rahnamepting @XochitlHinojosa are helping make sure our Dems keep their eyes on the prize: 270 electoral votes.
NEW: We (w/ @rahnamepting) launched @Project270HQ, a multimillion dollar research project on what 2028 battleground voters (not primary voters) want in their candidates and the issues that matter most to these voters.
The goal of @Project270HQ is to arm the Dem ecosystem with what they need to win. 💪🏾

I think I missed the part where we elected Sam Altman the God-King Emperor of deciding what costs are acceptable to impose on society
“We believe the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology.”
In a conversation for the first edition of Decoded, a new daily newsletter and podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman talked with POLITICO’s @BrendanBordelon about trade-offs, AI safety, and how his company is different from Anthropic.

HINOJOSA: "Something is truly happening in Texas. With the combination of Paxton and Abbott and Trump, it is the Wild West."

Sam Altman shouldn't be making any decisions about what "bad things" we have to accept on all of our behalf.
I am not comfortable with that. None of us should be, especially when it comes to AI.

This is absurd.
We should reject AI bots doing "bad things" so that some of the richest corporations in the world can get even richer.
It's time to enforce the laws already on the books, regulate AI, and protect people from serious harm.

Can we see a show of hands for those who agree to accept bad things for the benefits of AI?
