Twenty-five years after the adoption of the Women, Peace and Security agenda, progress remains uneven. Strengthening implementation requires credible policies, inclusive leadership, and attention to the lived realities of those serving in uniform.
🎖️The UN Resolution on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) celebrated its 25th anniversary this year - but with women only making up around 20% of military forces on average, its achievements are increasingly questioned.
Our FrontlineVoices project aimed to explore women's evolving role in peace and security, and the final event invited discussants to debate ways to overcome the pressures undermining WPS's purpose and impact.
📚We also launched the “Frontline Voices” final report, which sets out a series of recommendations to strengthen WPS and improve its implementation.
These proposals draw on the insights of policymakers, defence officials, UN and NATO representatives, civil society leaders and some of the original architects of the WPS framework.

Last week marked 25 years since UN Security Council Resolution 1325. A landmark in recognising women’s vital role in peace and security.
The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda remains essential, yet faces growing challenges: waning political will, shrinking resources, and limited participation.
At “Frontline Voices: 25 years of WPS” by @FriendsofEurope, discussions focused on turning commitments into action. The Frontline Voices report calls for renewed resolve, accountability, and lasting support for women peacebuilders.
Inclusive security is both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity.
