Citizens of Britain, Worrying times. The same networks that helped turn French streets into battlegrounds are now openly organising a “duplicate” here. On 20 November they are calling an International Youth Day of Action in Trafalgar Square and other cities. Student and worker walkouts. Explicitly linked to the French protests. Coordinated with actions across Europe. The stated aims: rise against “capitalism, authoritarianism and the far right,” redirect money from defence to education and jobs, and back the Palestinian cause. We have already seen the French version. What began as student blockades over school conditions and austerity escalated into nationwide unrest. Thousands arrested. Businesses damaged or looted. Buildings and a town-hall clock tower set alight. Localised curfews. Police losing control in flashpoints in Paris, Marseille and Lyon. Pro-Palestine, hard-left, Yellow Vest-adjacent and other groups all pulled into the same surge. The official line was always “justice” and “against repression.” The result was chaos. Now the call arrives in Britain under the same banner. Posters and statements from SOAS Liberated Zone, Socialist Students, International Youth Strike and allied groups urge young people to walk out and “join the international fightback.” They are proud to align with the French movement. Some of the same circles that have spent years normalising disruption, encampments and selective outrage are now testing whether British streets will answer the same way. This is not a mystery. Large-scale coordinated protests that draw on recent foreign unrest carry a clear risk of escalation—especially when organisers frame it as resistance to the entire system and when police numbers and public trust are already strained. Whether it stays peaceful is an open question. History suggests the script does not always stay on the page. Britain is not France. Different institutions, different police culture, different public patience. But the underlying pressures—cost of living, housing, migration tensions, polarised politics, eroded trust—are recognisable. Those who want disorder know it. Expect nothing. Prepare for everything.
