Amazing how much this post from 2014 ended up predicting about today's marketing landscape: Video content influencers are king. Maybe it's cyclical? I guess community management is a bigger deal today with Discord than it was in 2014. positech.co.uk/cliffsblog/20…

@cliffski Any chance we could get a "Marketing Games in 2021" blog post from you as an update on these ideas for the current landscape? Love the insights in these blog posts, just wish there were more of them!

Analyses like this one of Michelin's marketing strategy are invaluable: positech.co.uk/cliffsblog/20… Michelin (a tire company) branching into gourmet food awards was key to defining and controlling their brand association with *quality*. Any brand can do this with intention!

Great post here exploring how discounts on a game are basically a marketing cost, so if you have capital available in advance, you can consider spending that budget on developing DLC or other types of marketing rather than steeply discounting your game: positech.co.uk/cliffsblog/20…

Been putting myself through a crash course in #indiegame marketing to learn as much as possible for our upcoming game. Anyone have any #indiegamemarketing resources to recommend? So far I've found Chris Zukowski's How to Make a Steam Page extremely helpful!

Simon Carless' Game Discoverability interviews/podcasts have also been a boon, especially his interview with @FutureFriendsVG. Mike Rose's GDC talks are also excellent, in particular his 2019 talk about building a community from scratch. His discord meta-games are so innovative!

We're considering starting a #podcast in the #indiegame space covering game development, hidden gems, and interviewing community members. What topics should we cover first? Who should we interview? Any questions about indie dev we should answer? Post your suggestions below!

Not all narrative-building gameplay is flashy; Often it’s built right into the player’s moment-to-moment experiences. Best save mechanic ever? #indiedev #gaming #StoriedGameplay

They’re also not all sad (we’ve posted a few downers in a row here). Whatever your story is trying to impart or emote, gameplay can lend a helping hand :handshake: (pun intended).

Did you catch this gem? It lives in the shadow of a much more famous title in the series so if you haven’t, we do recommend you give it a try.

Throughout gaming history, players and enemies alike have ushered countless horses to better pastures - with little fanfare. What made Agro’s passing different? Older devs might remember this gamasutra series on SotC : bit.ly/3CYJCaJ (2/3)

Effective design doesn’t always mean consistency; Wander and Agro both were often unreliable, intentionally to the experience and story’s benefit. What other player-mounts or companions stand out to you from the rest? (3/3)
