When asked about working with President Trump, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he has had “long, extended phone calls” with the president. Newsom said he is willing to work with the president and that he appreciates New York City Mayor Mamdani’s willingness to work with him, but said “there’s limits.”
“I’ll continue that posture,” Newsom said, referring to the “dozens of phone calls” he has had to work with Trump. “That said, he’s a different guy. This is not normal behavior.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom responded Saturday to the Trump administration's decision to remove his ex-wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle, as U.S. ambassador to Greece, calling the situation "unfortunate."
Speaking to CBS News' @JaredOchacher while campaigning for Democrats in New Hampshire, Newsom said he had not spoken to Guilfoyle in some time and wished her the best.
Guilfoyle's removal comes amid allegations that she asked a Trump donor to pay off a substantial credit card bill in exchange for access to the administration. Guilfoyle has denied the allegations.

I was delighted to meet Dr. Omar Mohammad, a historian and writer whose work I have long admired, in person today. For years, Omar's work was famous the world over without anyone knowing his name.
His anonymously authored blog, Mosul Eye, became a rare, reliable source of information from inside northern Iraq during the darkest period of ISIS's control over the region. Omar refused to let his city be destroyed in silence, and he continues to tell the story of Mosul and its struggle for a better future today.
His new book documents the work of bearing witness—sometimes while risking everything. I hope it inspires a new generation to defend freedom and transparency as he did and does.

The FBI arrested a suspected Chinese agent at Los Angeles International Airport after she allegedly surveilled the Taiwanese president's U.S.-based son, law enforcement sources told CBS News.
CBS News was the first to report on the arrest of Wanying "Heather" Zhang, an Irvine, California, realtor, who was cuffed by federal agents on Sunday before she boarded a flight to Shanghai, China, from LAX, on a charge of acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. It was not immediately clear if Zhang has an attorney. @adamyamaguchi

We just arrested a Chinese foreign agent at LAX attempting to depart for China.
Wanying Zhang, aka “Heather,” 34, of Irvine, was arrested today by @FBILosAngeles on a federal complaint charging her with acting as an unregistered agent of the People’s Republic of China.
According to the affidavit, Zhang traveled to Seattle in 2025 and, at the direction of PRC officials, surveilled a close relative of a Taiwanese government official, sending photos, videos, and license plate information to those officials.
She coordinated the trip with an associate and used tradecraft to avoid detection. She never notified the Attorney General she was acting for a foreign government, a federal offense.
She will appear in federal court in Los Angeles tomorrow for her initial appearance. Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
