Recent wildfires have caused traffic chaos in the #NewForest. Praise is deservedly going to fire fighters and essential services but a BIG shout out to those who are quietly and respectfully travelling, in difficult circumstances, just trying to go about their business.🏆

Fire can be a natural part of heathland ecology, but severe or frequent fires can destroy vegetation, damage wildlife habitats, harm soils and water, threaten human and animal lives, and change the character of the #NewForest landscape. newforestcommoner.co.uk/

We continue to ask the public to avoid the area & to leave gateways & gravel access tracks clear to allow the fire services & our staff to manage the incident. Bratley View, the Canadian Memorial & Bolderwood car parks are closed, to keep the area clear.

New Forest stallions form an integral part of the area’s long and rich history. They are released to breed with free-roaming mares and improve the quality of the foals produced. This year, 21 stallions were turned out across various locations in the Forest for a period of six weeks. The stallions are held on a private holding for the rest of the year under the Verderers of the New Forest Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) scheme, which provides annual funding for their grazing. The scheme is a partnership between the Verderers of the New Forest , Forestry England and the New Forest National Park Authority, as well as support from Natural England and the New Forest Commoners’ Defence Association. The funding encourages commoners - those who own and look after the livestock in the Forest - to own stallions and ensures they have land to graze on during the long period when they are not permitted to be on the Forest. Find out more through the link in our bio and in the video 🎥 #NewForest #Stallions

Please don’t feed the #NewForest ponies, your ‘kindness’ can kill.
New Forest Ponies are born and bred on the Forest, they have all the natural food they need here already. We remind visitors that it’s a finable offence to pet, feed or leave food out for the ponies or donkeys. 🐴 🔗 See link in bio to find out more #CareForTheForest

4 years ago @ForestryEngland & @WildNewForest1 began a project to confirm the return of Pine Martens to the #NewForest. Using hidden cameras we now know they are here, breeding, & that the Forest's ancient woodlands are a really important habitat for this tree loving species.
