As the forest shifts down a gear, conservation work ramps up💚
This week, our amazing volunteers begin their autumn & winter conservation tasks. Work is planned around nature’s calendar and ready for spring. Thank you to all giving their time & skills to care for the #NewForest.
Tree pests and diseases can hitch a ride in mud on our shoes, bikes and even dogs' paws.
Cleaning between visits is a simple action that can help protect the trees we love.

The New Forest is renowned for deer and today there are around 3,000 living here.
We have quiet areas for deer to rest and feed during the rut, please keep a look out for the amber and red signs which mark these conservation areas.

ALT A trio of deer stands in a misty, open field with dense shrubbery. One deer, with prominent antlers, looks forward while the others graze and observe the surroundings. The distant background features a line of tall, blurred trees under a pale sky.

ALT A red sign from Forestry England reads: "Stop! Deer quiet area. Do not enter the quiet area as this is where the deer rest." Additional instructions are to keep out of the quiet area, stay on paths, keep dogs on leashes, and not to disturb the deer. Professional photography requires permission. The sign is mounted on a wooden post with a forest background.
We're pleased to be supporting this and our rangers will be hosting some interesting walks in the Forest 👇

Our team really enjoyed taking part in the recent Pass the PEDALL challenge in the #NewForest
Together they completed an impressive 50 laps of the circuit, helping to raise funds for this local charity supporting inclusive cycling across the Forest.
Tree pests and diseases can spread naturally, but they can also hitch a ride with us. Hidden in mud on shoes, bikes and dogs' paws, they can travel to new places. Cleaning between visits helps protect the trees we love.

Thanks to everyone who supported the #groundnestingbirds breeding season in the #newforest 🐣🐦
The car parks at sensitive breeding locations have been reopened.
With this summer's drought it's been a tough time for wildlife & your support has played a really important role🙏
Our team took on a 21km hike this week for the Wildlife Ranger Challenge raising awareness for wildlife rangers across Africa. Everyday African rangers protect endangered species, safeguard precious landscapes & support local communities.

Pannage is an ancient practice where New Forest commoners turn out their pigs during autumn. The pigs do an important job of eating fallen acorns, which are tasty for them but poisonous for ponies & cattle. 🐖

We're working with researchers Tara Dempsey & Simon Currie to study how successfully Nightjars are breeding in the New Forest. Some of these distinctive ground nesting birds are still on nests & several have been spotted in an area we've been restoring.

Our team were joined this morning by a group of trained and experienced staff and volunteers from @ARC_Bytes to carry out a wildlife rescue at the site of the wildfire.
The wildfire area still remains an active incident and those attending today were operating under strictly controlled conditions and supervision. We are asking the public to continue to avoid the affected areas.
