Our biggest critic posted a video about the ECI. He misunderstands much of what we're doing, but I think he would be against it regardless. I left a comment, but it didn't show up (thanks, YT). Here's a copy of what I posted: pastebin.com/S2JY8SPW youtube.com/watch?v=ioqSvLqB…

"Kotaku asked us some questions about our project for an article that isn't even published so we're shutting down the studio" is a new one. Fuckin' gong show.

I've just learned that it's safe to wait only 1 week with no response from Ubisoft about The Crew before contacting the DGCCRF instead of 2. The guides will get updated on it later.

As with everything there are many shades of grey and nuance when it comes to how/when someone can consider 30fps "playable", IMO: Input latency: At 30fps, most games will feel significantly laggier than 60fps or HFR games since the input sampling is usually done as part of the core game loop. Few games separate presentation logic from simulation logic, allowing simulation to run at higher framerate, minimizing this issue. Presentation Latency: Even if input is sampled at higher than 30fps frequency, it will take longer to present the next frame at 30fps compared to 60fps. Especially with double buffering. Motion Resolution: This is where a 30fps game will feel blurrier than a 60fps game without motion blur. 120fps will feel sharper than 60fps. 4k at 60 is shaper than 4k at 30 on most modern displays. That's partly why we did @OriTheGame at 120fps in 4k - it is significantly sharper than the same game at 60fps. Sample-and-hold pattern of most displays since the switch from CRT will mean that you get inherent motion blur of the display the lower the refresh rate. Running these panels at higher framerate will mean much more detail in motion. Animation / Camera Scrolling Smoothness This one is less of a deal-breaker for many as some can tolerate more motion judder than others. But for games with fast camera movement and or side scrolling higher framerate will be noticeably more pleasant to play. To me personally out of all of these the motion resolution and input latency are the biggest deal-breakers. The gameplay experience at 60fps will just feel more responsive, sharper and smoother on most displays and devices for most people.
The 30fps is "unplayable" narrative is one of the worst trends to ever happen in gaming. This asinine PC lames rhetoric has you passing on great game experiences Yet 95% of you can't tell the difference between 30fps & 60fps unless you're told beforehand 30fps plays fine
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
A 2015 study suggests most people can discern higher framerates when presented films at varying rates. source.sheridancollege.ca/centres_sirt_w… Additionally, framerate provides an objective difference in both skill and general enjoyment in the context of games, considerably moreso than resolution. web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/pape… web.cs.wpi.edu/~claypool/pape…

Hi all, today it was brought up that those with early access to review Diablo 4 (most of the Maxroll team) would have an unfair advantage in Blizzard's upcoming Diablo 4 launch race. We agree with this sentiment, and although we will be racing alongside everyone, we will not be claiming any prizes for it. We love that Blizzard is promoting competition in their games and want to see more of it in the future. We're looking forward to an even playing field in Season 1 where we can test our abilities against everyone. Happy blasting and enjoy the game whether you're racing or not. See you on the 30th for our new site launch. - The Maxroll Diablo 4 Team

This was the second best thing I played last year and (I think) the best survival game on the market...and it's not even finished yet! Huge news for Xbox console owners. Grab some mates and be prepared to lose like 60-100 hours, ez.
It’s finally happening! #Valheim is coming to Microsoft Store and #Xbox, and there will be full crossplay support, including with Steam! 🎮🎉 youtube.com/watch?v=vPEGKJlE…
