What is happening in Georgia today is a Russian hybrid war.
Underrating this threat by Western partners would be as fatal a mistake as the inadequate response to the 2008 war in Georgia — which tragically led to Crimea in 2014 and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
If Russia wins this hybrid war in Georgia, the fallout will not stop here; former Soviet states and Eastern Europe will be next.
Do not repeat the same mistake.

We call on our international partners to act now and stand firmly with the Georgian people in defending democracy, pluralism, and the rule of law.
Passive observation is no longer enough. Hesitation today will only leave the international community facing a far more unmanageable crisis tomorrow. 🇬🇪🇪🇺

Back in 2023, when Georgian Dream first tried to introduce the Russian-style law, for the sake of dismantling their propaganda, we offered an alternative: if genuine financial transparency - without stigmatization - was truly their goal, we proposed amending solely in terms of additional reporting of funds.
Unsurprisingly, transparency was never their aim. It was pure propaganda. Instead, a corrupt regime intent on staying in power eventually passed the Foreign Agents law.
Each and every legislative step since, unfortunately, has only proven our warnings right. The recent amendments to the Law on Grants - criminalizing "unauthorized funding" with deliberate ambiguity - have now been clearly exposed by the @coe Venice Commission:
They serve "no legitimate purpose" of protecting sovereignty or political integrity.
Their sole intent is to weaponize the law against civil society, critical media, and political opposition.
Instead of safeguarding democracy, GD is systematically dismantling fundamental freedoms of association, political pluralism, and expression to solidify control.
The Venice Commission’s conclusion confirms that the current regime is deliberately damaging Georgia’s prospects for a democratic European future.

Fining critical broadcasters for daring to use standard political terms such as “regime,” “oligarch,” or “political prisoners” is an outright assault on constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression.
The ComCom has eagerly turned itself into a cheap tool of political repression, meticulously banning basic words just to shield a deeply insecure individuals from hearing the truth about themselves.
Free media is non-negotiable for a democratic society - a concept as utterly foreign to this regime as basic rule of law.
Phrase by phrase, fine by fine - when a desperate state commission starts dictating an “approved” vocabulary and forbidding political evaluation, it isn't regulation. This is just weak, state-sponsored censorship and petty autocracy in practice - though I’m sure they’ll happily try to fine us for calling it that, too.

I welcome the @Europarl_EN urgent resolution, which accurately reflects the reality on the ground in Georgia:
In September 2026, For Georgia - the sole opposition party remaining in parliament - was listed for a ban, effectively eliminating legitimate political opposition. By targeting our party, the regime has completely dismantled its own narrative of only going after "boycotting" parties, proving instead that it bans any form of dissent.
After banning legitimate parties, the regime will create artificial ones to mimic “pluralism” - serving the exact same function as the "parties" on Russia’s election ballot.

The ruling regime’s push to ban opposition parties is escalating. Assigning the lawsuit to the full plenum of the Constitutional Court is a mafia-style tactic of "collective guilt" - ensuring all judges are tied to this anti-democratic decision, made possible by recent political appointments in the Court.
Simultaneously, the court sessions against me regarding the Chorchana police checkpoint are being rushed, now scheduled almost every other day. Fast-tracking this case is directly linked to laying the groundwork for banning our party.
All signals point to a final decision scheduled right around New Year's, when global attention is low.
By taking these extreme measures, Georgian Dream is deliberately destroying even the smallest remaining window of opportunity to normalize relations with Europe and safeguard our democratic future.

Highly appreciate the UK’s strong & unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Sanctioning high level representatives of the occupation regimes in Georgia's Abkhazia & Tskhinvali region is a crucial step in holding Russia accountable for its continued occupation and ongoing de facto annexation. Thank you 🇬🇧 for standing with 🇬🇪 against Russian aggression!

Another disgraceful display in a Georgian court today: U.S. Magnitsky-sanctioned Gomelauri, key witness in Chorchana Case, gave false testimony against me.
He claims that as former head of State Security, he knew nothing about the Chorchana police checkpoint being built in order to contain Russian creeping occupation.
Driven by fear of personal accountability, they expose their total incompetence and readiness to distort history. These individuals are testifying directly against the national interests of their own homeland.
Today @GYLA_CSO issued a report regarding Chorchana episode:

The "Georgian Dream" lawsuit seeking to ban our Party “for Georgia” has finally been made public. With this document, the ruling party is officially declaring critical dissent itself unconstitutional.
There are specific names attached to this authoritarian turn: 88 MPs who signed off on banning critical thought and political pluralism in Georgia.
For Georgia, this means a transition to full single-party rule, the total derailment of our European path, and severe international isolation. This is precisely what every single signatory is individually accountable for.

33 years ago today, Sukhumi fell. The pain of loss and displacement remains deeply personal for thousands of Georgian families.
Back then we couldn't avoid the conflict, orchestrated and fuelled by Russia that brought immense suffering to both Abkhaz and Georgian communities.
True reconciliation and a common future with our Abkhaz brothers and sisters can only be built through peace, development and integration with European family. Georgia will be whole again. 🇬🇪

Today in Tbilisi court, a leader of the openly pro-Russian "Neutral Georgia" party testified against me, claiming I am an "American and German spy" and that placing a police checkpoint in Chorchana - done to stop Russian creeping occupation - was ordered by foreign powers to intentionally cause an escalation.
This is the exact same pro-Russian group whose complaints are used to prosecute opposition leaders, and whose "arguments" Georgian Dream used last week to address Constitutional Court to ban our party.
The Kremlin-aligned agenda in Georgia is fully out in the open.

At the UN General Assembly #UNGA, Georgian Dream’s PM delivered a speech that was a masterclass in appeasement and historical neglect.
When given the highest global platform, Georgia’s leadership should stand firm against Russian aggression. Instead, the occupation was mentioned merely as a checkbox item. Not a single word on the ongoing creeping annexation in Tskhinvali region, no call for international support to enforce the 2008 cease-fire agreement violated daily by Moscow, and complete silence on Georgia’s European future.
A government that fails to name Russian occupation for what it is, subverts EU integration, isolates the country and undermines its geopolitical relevance, cannot protect Georgia’s sovereignty, or ensure peace and prosperity and, respectively, cannot represent the will of our people.

Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the ambition to assume the @OSCE Chairmanship in 2027.
Any success of Georgia in the international arena is always welcomed.
However, it is deeply regrettable that a government which bans opposition parties, prosecutes political leaders, isolates the country from its major partners, stays silent on Russian occupation, and triggered the OSCE Moscow Mechanism is now cynically trying to use international formats to “justify” its regime.

Last week, Georgian Dream applied to the Constitutional Court requesting to ban us - the only opposition party represented in parliament.
To this day, this "lawsuit" remains inaccessible - it is neither public nor made available to us.
It will be quite "interesting" to see what fabricated claims Ivanishvili’s regime cooks up this time against a party that holds parliamentary seats and has consistently maintained that elections are the only peaceful path to changing power.

Today Russia took another dangerous step towards the annexation of Georgia's occupied Tskhinvali Region by installing its career civil servant, Marat Kambolov as a so-called "President of South Ossetia" through illegal and predetermined "elections" in the occupied territories.
This "elections" and its results don't have any legitimacy under the international law, however they pose direct threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, as Kambolov vowed to remove borders between Tskhinvali and Northern Ossetia, which effectively puts this historic land of Georgia within the administrative boundaries of Russia.
The situation has been further aggravated by the collaborative policy of the ruling Georgian Dream party, which, instead of mobilising international community to counter the ongoing de-facto annexation process of the Tskhinvali region, accuses its own people in "Rusophobia".
Amidst the treasonous policy of the Ivanishvili regime, I call on the international community to strongly condemn illegal "presidential elections" in Tskhinvali Region as yet another attempt by the Russian Federation to redraw the borders of the European state and continue its firm support to Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty. It's critical that the international community confronts Russia's policy of aggression and annexation be it Ukraine, Georgia or elsewhere. It was Georgia, in 2008, who suffered first Russia's open aggression, invasion and occupation, which now continues towards the annexation.
