I was in a meeting where the Dean said, as they’ve said before, “we’re going to have to do more with less” and I replied “or maybe we just do less with less” and the room got really quiet. I think about that sometimes.

Folks focus on the lack of action of Democrats, but the utter spinelessness of Republicans is even more grotesque.

FYI - This is NOT rescinding the funding freeze, just rescinding the memo itself. The funding freeze is still in full effect. What a mess.

I need people to understand how difficult it is to get an NIH grant. You spend months writing a proposal, following strict guidelines that include a detailed multiyear budget, bios of everyone on your team, plans for participant safety & ethical conduct. Then you send it off -1/n

Cis-male faculty at Canadian Universities, have you ever called out sexism witnessed by colleagues in real time? Willing to share anecdotes about the context even if you can’t share names? Working on a story about gender equity for @UA_magazine. Please reach out and RT!

It’s wild to me that people think a gun would have made this situation better. It was scary, but nobody got hurt. If a gun was involved one of those two men, or both, might be dead. Real life isn’t a staged movie set.

Ok, except calling women’s ability to say no to men a “power dynamic difference” is peak incel.
Replying to @ShitpostRock
My DMs talking about me being a quote on quote “incel”, not realising that we will have to sit down and talk about this power dynamic difference between men and women at some point. There is a valid conversation here to be had on why things are as they are and what the culprit is

*** Breast-reduction surgeries on children are almost entirely (97%) on non-trans males.*** But no outrage about all of those non-trans males who didn't want breasts. Because it isn't about 'saving our youth' from gender surgeries, it's about rage farming. hsph.harvard.edu/news/featur…

@FlyBehaviour & team generated #Drosophila strains where tRNAs mistranslate serine at either valine or threonine codons. In #G3journal, explore how these mistranslations can have a negative or positive effect on lifespan depending on the sex of the fly: bit.ly/3A6q3ka

This is what happens when you don’t think about the big picture of what makes the graph. Teen pregnancy declined by 18% from 2008-2010. The ‘decline in fertility’ is driven almost entirely by a decline in teen pregnancies. It’s not a bad thing.
Ok so obviously fertility rates declined sharply around 2009-2010. Some say it’s the recession but I doubt it. It’s the phones, and not in the “people are too busy scrolling to have sex” way. Read on.

These 1950’s dinner parties were women’s labor. Usually without acknowledgement of the extraordinary work involved. Nothing is stopping people from choosing to put in the work to do them if they wanted to. But what they want is women to do it and they just show up.
My parents belonged to a "Supper Club" for 50 years. Every month it was at one of the members home, they had dinner and drinks, and played bridge. My memory of it was from the back bedroom, even with the black and white TV on, I could hear raucous laughter and hilarity. I could not wait to grow up and do this, too. It never happened. And, yes, they all looked this fabulous.

I get it. I do. But Social Security is more than just a retirement safety net. It’s a critical safety net for widows and their kids, too. Not everyone has $$ left over to put in a retirement plan and to buy life insurance.
Boy do I love watching the federaI government take hundreds of dollars out of my paycheck every week for a retirement program that will 100% not be around when I’m old enough to cash in on it
