What if increasing access to tutoring were as simple as making registration easier?
In a randomized experiment, we find that simplifying enrollment and encouraging families increased literacy tutoring take-up by 11 percentage points --> a 37% increase
Sometimes better program design matters as much as funding

AND IT JUST KEEPS COMING! What a week for #Arkansas education!
Today’s positive EFA report adds to a growing list of reasons to celebrate the opportunities opening up for Arkansas children.
✅ Arkansas students improved in every tested grade and subject on this year’s ATLAS assessments, with fewer students performing at the lowest achievement level.
✅ School ratings released in September show 23 more districts earning an A or B and 12 fewer receiving a D or F.
✅ Pine Bluff’s The Learning Lounge won the $1 million Yass Prize this week, bringing national recognition and new investment to an Arkansas microschool.
✅ Little Rock School District is exploring a partnership with Sankofa Learning Academy, opening the door to bringing a microschool model into a public elementary school.
Stronger public schools. More choices for families. New ideas and partnerships that put children first.
This is the promise of Arkansas LEARNS, and these developments give us real reasons for encouragement. Thank you @GovSHuckabee and #Arleg for putting more trust into our teachers, families, school founders and leaders! Together we are working to help more #AR children succeed.
Take a look at The Reform Alliance’s release below for the latest EFA findings. There is so much good happening in Arkansas education.

🎉“Under rules proposed Thursday, married couples who donate $3,400 to certain scholarship granting groups can get a full dollar-for-dollar tax credit. That essentially lets them direct $3,400 of their federal income tax bill to the school-choice program rather than to general government operations. There is no income cap on who can participate.”

This decision is not in the best interests of Wisconsin’s kids, public or private.
By not opting in, Wisconsin citizens will now only be able to donate out of state and still receive the credit.
Instead of helping Wisconsin’s kids, this money will help kids in Indiana, Texas, Colorado, and elsewhere.
Told ya.
And this is why I said ‘no’ this boondoggle months ago. Public funds should go to public schools. Simple as that.

Nearly 25% of students participating in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts program have a qualifying disability. That's a higher percentage than in the public school system.

The irony is mind-boggling—& reminiscent of the backlash against the infamous Harper’s Letter. 'Uncivil' brazenly discards the principles of pluralism, open inquiry, free expression, & even basic standards of sound reasoning to advance a political agenda.
Simon Cullen's response is spot-on: “Uncivil uses many of the habits of argument that Disagree Wisely helps students learn to avoid: guilt by association, circumstantial ad hominem, and unsupported insinuations about people’s motives."
