About 1,200 lb of titanium wraps the A-10 cockpit. That's roughly 4% of the jet's 29,000 lb weight.
The Air Force says the aircraft can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high-explosive rounds up to 23 mm, and the armor also protects parts of the flight controls.
Above that, the pilot gets a big bubble canopy for all-around vision. The upgrade that made it an A-10C added hands-on throttle and stick, upgraded displays and digital stores management. You can see the stick, the displays and a white card on the pilot's leg in this clip.
What's the first thing you notice in this cockpit view?
robotics 101
from code to physical intelligence
robotics is where software meets the physical world. and the physical world doesn’t care if your code compiles.
what you actually need:
• mechanics → forces, torque, motion, and how machines physically interact with the world.
• electronics → motors, sensors, actuators, power systems. hardware is how robots sense and act.
• mathematics → linear algebra, calculus, geometry. the language of motion and transformation.
• control theory → feedback loops, stability, and making machines behave predictably.
• perception → cameras, lidar, sensor fusion. turning raw measurements into useful information.
• planning → figuring out where to go, what to do, and how to get there without breaking things.
• software → connecting everything into a reliable system that works in real time.
the hard part isn’t making a motor spin or getting a model to recognize an object.
it’s making everything work together, reliably, in an unpredictable physical world.
that’s robotics. engineering at the intersection of almost everything.
