This evening, I convened a meeting between leaseholders and freeholders from the Stonegrove Estate in Edgware and senior leadership from FirstPort, who manage the estate. I brought FirstPort managers to Stonegrove so that residents could get answers and action on the issues they face. I’ll hold FirstPort to account to ensure they deliver on the promises they made tonight.

I raised the fleecehold sharp practices of the racketeering scammers FirstPort in Parliament. Many colleagues recounted similarly bad experiences. 2 mins can never do justice to the western circus case but gave it a stab.

The issue with FirstPort (more LastPort) is cultural. It was apparent when I cross-examined them during our FTT dispute that FirstPort senior management simply do not care about the service they provide. They have no concept of fiduciary duty; what it means to be responsible for leaseholder money.
Their principal aim is to buy up as many smaller manging agents as possible and to take as much from leaseholders as possible to service their colossal corporate debts.
Until that culture changes -- which is in part to be achieved by rebalancing the law in favour of leaseholders -- nothing else will change.
Leaseholders in Hendon are being made to feel like cash cows by managing agents who hike service charges but provide poor service in return.
FirstPort are the country’s largest management agent, and one of the worst offenders.
