Congratulations to @SenAlexPadilla, @RepJimmyPanetta, and @RepZoeLofgren on @POTUS signing the FIRE Act into law! The FIRE Act will strengthen @fema's wildfire preparedness and response efforts to support communities. We are grateful for their leadership on wildfire issues!
RT @RobMayeda: Thanks @NHKWORLD_News for having me help with your NHK Special: Wildfire on that aired on Dec 4th. Good to see @FireWeatherL…

This is the "Big Iron." The California State University-Mobile Atmospheric Profiling System (CSU-MAPS) is a 32-m extendable meteorological tower. Deployed here for the California Canyon Fire Experiment to measure winds and turbulence at multiple levels. #CAwx

This prescribed fire also provided valuable research on how fires behave in canyons. Read this @sfchronicle article for more information about our collaboration with @FireWeatherLab for details. ⬇️ #CaWx

As noted by many, there is radar/video evidence for a Fire-Generated Tornadic Vortex (#FGTV) this evening on the SE flank of the #MosquitoFire. Unlike recent cases, this one is clearly cyclonic (not anticyc.). Circ. extends from the sfc up to ~10kft, before becoming divergent

Getting ready for our third day of #CalFiDE deployment at the #MosquitoFire. Great coordinated effort yesterday between @UNRScience, @wildfirecenter, @FireWeatherLab and @NOAA_ESRL to measure fire and plume behavior from the air and the ground.

Photos of the #mosquitofire from NOAA’s twin otter during the #CALFIDE campaign. We got some of the ground assets (radar and lidar) in place in the late afternoon (9/7)… probably more sampling later today.

Research at #SJSU just received a big boo$t, largely thanks to the @CAgovernor's state budget and elected officials who support our university. Learn how more than $8 million in new funding will advance our @wildfirecenter and @MLMLmarinesci efforts.

The process as shown by @HoltHanley chamise samples collected on site, weighed back at the lab, set into an oven for 24hrs and reweighed to calculate fuel moisture. Conditions have been near to record dry since April. We’ll see what mid-September brings. #CAwx @FireWeatherLab

The most active wildfire today was the #DixieFire.
"The focus right now is on the East Zone near Davis Lake and along the 395 corridors.
Crews completed structure defense, building dozer and hand lines around the houses, in the event the fire comes over the escarpment."
