I have always said that doing a ₹10k SIP is a waste of time, and today I’m in a mood to explain the mathematics behind it - If you do a monthly SIP of ₹10k at a 12% interest rate, you will achieve a corpus of ₹1 crore in 21 years. However, the mutual fund company would need just 10 such investors to earn ₹1 crore in the same 21 years (0.75% expense ratio). All while you have to suffer for the market ups and downs while they will get their payments even when you are in a loss. Now do you understand why they keep shouting in your ears that “Mutual funds sahi hai.”? Well, it’s because mutual funds are ‘sahi’ for the company and its distributors, but not for the person doing it. If you account for a 10% urban inflation, your ₹1 crore corpus won’t even be worth ₹15 lakhs properly in the end. So please enlighten me - how is investing ₹10k in SIPs better than spending ₹10k on your family just for their fun? I will wait for your answers & I’m open to changing my opinion if I read a strong argument.

Those who ask Ambani why he don't compete with big companies, he does and, and he has a graveyard of failures there because he can't just use money to win there. In software, other companies are big companies with cash, they can also reduce their cost, but the small snacks sellers, chocolate factories can't afford discounts. And he ends up killing those companies. i) He acquired Saavn to compete with Spotify, god knows who pay for it now. ii) JioChat and JioMeet, another one to counter WhatsApp and Zoom, no one use because he can't just throw money to win, need to work on UI, UX, Supprt which is lil difficult. iii) JioPages, his chrome alternative, no one uses. iv) JioBook, his chromebook alternative, basically a cheap laptop for kids, failed. The ridiculous arguments by Ambani’s army of Internet shills make no sense On the one hand, they say Starlink couldn’t possibly compete with the amazing low prices offered by Ambani’s de facto monopoly in India and then, in the same breath, they essentially claim that Starlink would be too strong of a competitor! This is absurd hypocrisy and hyperbole. The reality is that competition would greatly benefit the average citizen in India by giving them more choices, as it always does. Ambani’s profits will be lower, but he is not going out of business. And, obviously, if Starlink is too expensive in India, no one will buy it, so SpaceX will need to make pricing affordable.
