Imagine if the judge presiding over the election of major democracy was compromised by participating in orgies with trafficked women organized by a man who was called big brother by one of the presidential candidates who was washing drug money and running a pyramid scheme?

I'm convinced that the R1 model will always disfavor the humanities and liberal learning and that we need to be very savvy and strategic in how we understand ourselves and our place within that model. Very few humanists agree with me, I've found.

People still think Israel-centric theories of western foreign policy are these unspeakable taboos that have some subversive power when uttered. Hillary Clinton recently imputed blame for the Iran war to Israel. Not only is this stuff mainstream, it can be convenient.
This is a stupid argument. Ideology is a powerful thing and it influences British State policy. If this weren’t the case, you wouldn’t have seen the pearl clutching over a party declaring that Zionism is racist. Israel isn’t a normal ‘vassal’ of the West. It’s 2026, get real.

They used to have real killer instinct when it came to other trots - in their day, nobody came close. Hunter S Thompson on Nixon comes to mind, just find/replace Nixon with Matgamna:

In 1934, Leon Trotsky invented the concept of joining a political organisation. Until then, everyone had ended up in an organisation by accident, through being signed up by their parents/guardians, mistaken identity, etc.
In 1934, while living in exile in Barbizon, a small village near Fontainebleau in France, Leon Trotsky pioneered the political strategy that is now vexing Zack Polanski. It was here that he started encouraging his supporters to deploy a new method to shift the political debate: entryism. Concerned that the Communist League – a French Trotskyist group founded four years previously – did not have the size or influence to act alone, Trotsky encouraged its members to dissolve the group and join the larger French Socialist Party. Ever since then, the term entryism has been used to describe any incident of a smaller group joining a larger organisation in order to advance their own agenda. Discussion of this tactic has appeared once again after Green Party members passed the controversial “Zionism is racism” motion at their party conference on 4 October. Grandees, such as the party’s former leader Caroline Lucas, have expressed concern that in failing to adapt the Greens’ ultra-democratic systems for a new era of mass membership, the party has left itself open to this tactic. Writing for the New Statesman last week, Lucas said: “Entryism has been a problem for many parties, but with our commitment to direct democracy and our cumbersome internal accountability mechanisms, the Greens are woefully exposed.” newstatesman.com/politics/gr…

Half the replies seem to think this unremarkable piece of second empire/early third republic civic architecture is a church. this is what happens when everyone who still believes in god worships in DIII basketball arenas.
This is what the barbarians just burned down in France.

Reading far rights takes on this site regarding current events in France, 1 has the impression that France never had revolutions or 4 failed republics, and that the country never experienced disorder until black and brown French citizens started protesting recently.

Many on the right dismiss the Sally Rooney case as a free speech issue because she “broke the law by supporting/funding Palestine Action, a proscribed group”. Funny the same argument was not made in relation to, say, Lucy Connolly who also “broke the law” (and pleaded guilty). 1/

It's crazy that there's a tool out there that's become vital to they way I do my job, parent my kids, and make major life decisions; and yet we barely spend more on it than AI
TIL that global spending on alcohol is still larger than AI infrastructure spending this year ($1.7T vs $1.5T)
