It's not the argument I was expecting to put on my side --- but it's always nice to see someone arguing that transport and not skills is the limiter on growth in Britain.
Yet another billionaire, Sir Peter Lampl, has abandoned Britain.
Sir Peter is a philanthropist who set up the Sutton Trust to improve the education of poorer children & invested Β£100m of his own money in it, while raising another Β£800m.
Explaining why he moved to the USA, Sir Peter blamed above all the inability to move around in London because of Labour's transport policies, saying:
"I donβt think Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, wants my type in his city. You know the sort I mean: wealth-creating entrepreneurs and philanthropists who need to get around the place rapidly to get their business done".
"The fact is that nearly a third of the 350 individuals featured on the Sunday Times Rich List in 2024 are no longer UK-based, and every day another one seems to join the traffic heading to the airport. Itβs an exodus."
"With a capital city in which we literally canβt get around by taxi and from which wealth creators are fleeing in their droves, is it any wonder that Britain, like its own traffic, is in the doldrums?"
Sad but true. And let's remember that around 4,000 of the richest individuals account for roughly 5% of all income tax

Complete slop take. Designing from inside out is good because it mimics what people would have done if they refitted the building over the centuries to meet their needs. There is a whole style that tries to look like that, domestic revival, and it's great!

The Irish State is in fact, not hyperfixated on Britain and relations between the two countries havenβt been hostile for real in living memory even during The Troubles when there was mass anger in Ireland.
Also Irish neutrality is a diplomatic asset for the EU.

Funny story from Southampton: someone had a PhD viva which was so long they had to take multiple breaks for lunch, dinner, and tea.
Eventually everyone was kicked out by security at midnight, and they decided to give the poor student a PhD for his trouble.
Some of us have engaged with the Green Party for 3 years now and itβs frankly a mixed bag.
Like Iβve seen a local figure who is an ex-councillor LARP as a radical socialist on twitter, but irl, he hasnβt been supportive of anything activisty.
A lot of commentary about and around the party is extremely naive. There are very good people within it, who do want to stand on business; but a lot of people are also pretty much Labour βsoft leftβ in ideology and temperament and probably just more NIMBY and localist.
