Thorpe United Football Club won their Sunday League but couldn't afford an open top bus parade, so got a mates flatbed instead. 🤣 #grassrootsfootball #sundayleague #AdultFootball #TeamGrassroots #GRF

Peni Holme and Bamber Bridge on tomorrow 👍 U8s Trophy Event being held at Peni Holme... Something a little bit different for everyone. Allows the teams & referees to get the feel of full competitive football. Remember this isn't for the egos of team managers. #enjoytheday

On Saturday an U12s football match had to be stopped, it had to be stopped because the referee (allegedly) was receiving abuse from adults. That referee was my son Conner, he was wearing a yellow armband that clearly stated he was under 18, and that he's a child himself. The adults were parents, parents of children playing in the match. The adults thought it was acceptable to give abuse to a child during this match. I can tell you that the referee was scared and upset, but to his maturity, he carried on that game until the end and kept his head held high. This incident has been reported and he has received overwhelming amounts of support from the football community. He took all that support, got up on Sunday with his head held high -Played for his team & got Man Of Match 📷 #grassrootsfootball #grassroots #referee #respect #RespectTheREF

ℹ️ Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be no live music in The Gentry Bar. We're still open for business, though, so pop in ahead of kick-off. 🙌 #pnefc

3 or 4 times a week I rush my evening meal to taxi my child to a cold 3G pitch or a muddy and wet match day. I stand around in the cold, the wet, the wind, sometimes the snow, rarely the sun. Then my child either gets a tonne of those black balls from the 3G pitch all over my car and my house or lots, and I mean lots of mud in the car and house. My washing cycle is permanently on to make sure my child has the right kit for training, match and it's pristine every time. This is our family ritual, we do it every week of every month, all year round. You might think I'm complaining, far from it, I will do this until I'm no longer wanted or needed or my child stops playing because deep down I love nothing more than watching my child's dedication and love for the sport. It brings me great pride and great joy to know they're having fun and loving playing. I will do it, and I will brave every element nature has to throw at me because I dread the day when it ends. We were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Anthony (Tony) Dilworth, ages 65, on 24 December 2023. Tony was part of this League for some 50 years as a player, team manager and club secretary. He won the LFA Sunday Trophy twice with Lisieux Hall FC in 1981 & 1982 and he was club secretary of the year in 2007 with Lea Rangers FC. Tony Dilworth was born in Preston, and he was educated at St John Southworth School. His football journey started at the age of 10 when he was scouted by Preston North End FC. He played for the Preston schools’ team and for Lancashire school boys. He was invited to join Liverpool FC and was apprenticed to them for 18 months, but despite Bill Shankley’s efforts to persuade him to stay at the club, he decided to move closer to home as his mother was poorly at the time. Tony then went on to Blackburn Rovers FC where he finished his apprenticeship. After leaving Blackburn he went on to play for Chorley FC and Netherfield FC in the Northern Premier League, He played for Springfields FC winning the West Lancs league title with them before signing for Preston North End where he played for the reserve team for half a season. Tony was then employed as a printer at the Lancashire Evening Post which meant working on Saturdays and playing Sunday Football. He signed for Lisieux Hall FC where he won the LFA Sunday Trophy with them in 1981 and 1982 as well as two league titles. His shifts at the Evening Post changed slightly which meant he could play on Saturdays again. Tony Hesketh, who managing BAC FC at the time signed him and he won the West Lancs League title once again. Tony then signed for Longridge Town FC who had teams playing Saturday and Sunday and he won the league title and runners up with them. He subsequently played for Vernon’s FC, Sumners FC, Bradley Wanderers FC and Eldon Rangers FC. Played for Lea Rangers FC with his son Jimmy at the age of 45 and that was a dream for him. He made one final appearance for Plungington Celtic FC at the age of 53 which turned out to be the last game he played. Tony was well known, well liked and hugely respected by everyone who met him, and he made a massive contribution to the Lancashire Sunday Football League. He is survived by his wife Ingrid, daughters Laura & Sarah, son James (Jimmy), stepsons Andrew & Jonny and grandchildren Charlie, Millie, Rosa Lea, Beatrice, Solomon and Thea. His sister and three brothers Harry, Michael & Barry predeceased him. Tony Dilworth Printer & Footballer .....10 August 1957 – 24 December 2023. Eamonn McNamara
